Red Alert Intelligence

TOP SECRET----Restricted Accses

Storyline:

Red Alert is actually not the sequel to C&C but more a prequel that is released after C&C and covers the time before C&C. Einstein develops a time machine and decides to stop the holocaust by eliminating Hitler. This is where RA takes place, in that alternative timeline which strays from the one we know in the 1940's. Due to Einsteins changes World War II never happened the way that we think of it and since Hitler never came to power Joseph Stalin and the USSR comes to power as the big heavy in the game. The player can play the fast and cunning Allies or the slow but more armoured USSR as they strive for conquest of Europe. The weapon technology ranges from 1940's to 1980's but remember this game is an ALTERNATE time line from the one we know, so other technologies and weapons have been developed. Europe was picked because of the proximity of countries that could be used as allies and enemies. The story will cover the gap from the time of the cold war to the time in the C&C storyline and explain much of how the C&C universe came into existence. It will also explain Kane and GDI's origins and keep mixing the real history that we know with an alternate one.

New features of Gameplay: (compared to C&C)

SVGA (640x480)or (600x400) screen resolution in Win95 and VGA (320x200) in DOS.

Mid-mission video-clips

Patrols with more than one waypoint.

Formation, a group of units that moves together, all travelling at the speed of the slowest unit.

Complete control over all air and sea units.

Completely featured map editor(both win95 and DOS).

Different AI(Artificial Intelligence or computer player) difficulty settings.

Fog of war(toggelable option called "Shroud regrowth"). It's not quite like in Warcraft II where the map gets shaded and enemy units not are seen but the map is still is visible when your units leave an area. In Red Alert the the map will turn black again a while after your units have left an area and you'll see nothing of either map or enemy units.

Mission timer. Some missions have to be completed within a certain timelimit.

GPS Satellite System, gives you the whole map.

Sonar Pulse enables you to see all subs on the radar for a couple of secs.

Buildings have to be in "the red" of the damage scale before they can be taken over by engineers. If an engineer attempts to take over a "healty" building he just damages the building.

Improvements: (compared to C&C)

Improved path-finding algorithm(no more stupid harvesters :).

More varied missions like convoys, rescues, escorts, scouts, searches and terrorism.

Improved computer AI, the computer will calculate threat rating of the units you send against it and take out the largest threat.

Crates can now also upgrade speed, armor or be under water.

Less missions with units only and more basebuilding missions.

Changes of Gameplay: (compared to C&C)

Tiberium is replaced by valuable gems and mineral ore.

Dump-truck unit with a scooper instead of harvester, and an Ore Processor instead of tiberium refinery.

The "ultimate weapons", like nuke and ion cannon in C&C is changed and are more specialized. The nuke is still in the game but is no longer the most powerful weapon which means that it's far less powerful than in C&C. A hint is that one of them will be a Philadelphia Experiment kind of weapon. This is a reference to an event that occurred in the 1940's when the U.S government was conducting an expriment to make ships invisible to radar, but it went terribly wrong.

The units: (known so far)

Air units:

MIGs (fires missiles), Yaks (machineguns), Badger bombers, Apaches (hellfire missiles), Transport helicopters, Spy planes and Hinds (machineguns).

Naval Units:

Subs, Cruisers, Destroyers, PT Boats, Submarines, and transports.

Vehicles:

Mobile radar jammer, Mobile gap generator, V2 Rocket launcher, Jeep, AT Minelayer, AP Minelayer MCV and Heavy Tanks(medium tanks with a second gun barrel). (Units that are unchanged is Light tank, Mammoth, Artillery, APC and Medium tank).

Infantry types:

Saboteur(woman armed with double Colt 45's), Thief(steals vehicles or money), Spy(if you can get him into the enemy radar station you will se all that your enemy does and in multiplayer you will se the messages your opponent sends to his allies. If you get heim into the naval yard you get sonic pulse, see New Features. He wears a tuxedo and talks like Sean Connery!), Medic, Paratroopers and Guard Dogs(Kills any infantry unit in one attack. There are dogs in one of the interior mission screnshots at the bottom of the page). Engineers now also repair structures and bridges.

The structures: (known so far)

Fake buildings which cost a fraction of the real building. Makes your enemy spend time and units on attacking a fake building :-)

Turrets and land-mines that you can build away from the base.

Exploding barrels(like in Doom :-)

Other buildings are:Gap generator (makes a black shroud over a couple of squares), Dog kennels, Ore processor, Airfields, Naval yards, Sub pens, Iron Curtain(Makes a unit unvunerable for a short while), Tech Center, Chronosphere(Temporarily teleports a unit somewhere on the map for a couple of seconds and then takes them back to where they came from), Service depot, Radar dome, AA-guns, and Tesla Coils(similar to Obelisks in C&C but with lightning effect)(see picture below)

Unchanged buildings are(some graphic makeovers): Helipad, Silo, Gun turret, Power plants, Weapons factory and barracks.

Maps:

Arctic terrain set and inside building set(!), in addition to the temperate and winter set. Desert terrain set removed.

96x96(over twice the C&C maps) size maps or a combination thereof (i.e. 128x64).

Beaches, making it possible to perform beach landings.(i.e. Send in the infantry as cannon fodder and bombard the enemy with Cruisers)

Bridges have been widened for more than just one unit. You can also blow them up and repair damaged ones.

Multiplayer Game:

2 player over internet(started from WChat) or null-modem serial link (no paralell supported in the game but paralell game can be played by setting up a paralell network in win95 and then starting a network game)

8 player network game over IPX (you'll problably be able to play over internet too by using Kali or Ten)

Better chat functions (more room to type)

Different AI levels on the computer opponents.

1 player multiplayer game("Skirmish" mode) against up to 7 computer players.

Countries instead of colors. The five different countries are: Russia, Ukraine, England, France, Germany, which individually has its own advantages with regard to building time, costs and unit skills. This is meant to provide a number of variations to game play and better balance multi-player games.

Improved computer AI, the computer builds bases and perform planned attacks on you. It will steal your structures and sell them and even build turrets from them inside your base. If allied on by two human players the computer will try to ally with other human or computer players.
