Welcome to Palantina
This is a campaign I started long long ago in California. We played in Palantina for about 4 yrs so the history and landscape is well developed. Currently I am running the players through my oldest adventure that started my Palantina Campaign. It has come a long way from its old form of one adventure, and has gradually evolved into a thrilling trilogy of madness, despair, and sorrow. The players just finished the second of the three, and are about to embark on the third chapter. Someday, I am hoping to get this adventure trilogy published in Dungeon Adventures but that might be getting a little hopeful. My players right now are:
TacticsBueh and
Jayhawk
De Poco Bueno
Leech
Characters:
Mandon - Wizard, accidently caused the death's of his family, including his father-in-law the Baron of Banet. Acceding to the throne, Mandon eventually lost his mind searching for a cure to death.
Murray Stormfury - One of Mandon's old captains, Murray joined Mandon in the world of the insane and now talks the days away to his pet potato, Popeye. Murray believes his brother Larry is dead, and so never wanders near the town. Murray sparked the PC's interest in Mandon and started the whole adventure.
Larry Stormfury - Murray's brother and also a former captain for Mandon, Larry is only a bit more sane than Murray. Larry sits in the inn in Banet and peels his potatoes (their father was a potato farmer), thinking his brother is dead.
The Ogre Mage - Once Ukyo's partner, the Ogre Mage has been hassling Brother Enrique Spearshafto (one of the PCs) for years. His formidable magic skills have been quite more than a match for the party's weapons.
Casualties:
Ukyo - A fighter from the far east. He betrayed the group during a fight with his (secret) friend ogre mage. The party was so enraged by his betrayal that they slew him and chased off the ogre mage. They didn't bother with a funeral.
Excelsior Dumont - A mage with amazing prowess, this unfortunate soul was crushed by a 10' by 10' stone block. One thing's for sure, they don't miss his Fairy shoes.
Tanthalas - A mysterious elf, Tanthalas was with the group to accomplish a common goal, the destruction of Mandon. Tragically he was killed by a castle guard as the party attempted to steal the uniforms off of some rather lively guards.
***SIGH*** Ok, this deserves special credit. Somehow, ALL FOUR of the characters are now dead. I guess I could have fudged stuff, but I don't believe in doing that. I just go with what is realistic. First, Enrique and Swiftwind decided to be amazingly smart and explore an infinitly deep lake because they thought it went somewhere. They both had "Breath Water" on them which would last for three and a half hours. After an hour of sinking, they decided to swim back up. Because they were both wearing armor, this was a rather difficult task. After making quite a few strength and constitution checks, they made it to the surface. There, I had them both make additional constitution checks. Then, being members of the critical failures, they BOTH rolled big fat twenties. *SIGH* So instead of making them pass out they both went into comas. I know that was a bit harsh but I didn't forsee what would happen next. The other two party members strapped the comatose characters to the back of a donkey (One character insisted on carrying on of the unconscious ones on his back, which the other players smacked him for) and set out to find help. They had just run from the nearest town because it was being ruled by Mandon, who they didn't exactly get along with too well. Going in the opposite direction, they came across a small valley filled with some primitives. The primitives there asked the characters if they were Nuncha, basically meaning "human" in their language. One character caught on and said he was, the other didn't and insisted that he was not a Nuncha (this character was coincidentally the one who wanted to carry the other character on his back). The Nuncha came to the conclusion that he was a demon and killed him. The last remaining character in the party thoughtfully lied to the Nuncha who had their shaman come out and ESP him, found out he was lying, and because he didn't like outsiders had the guards attack. They then had no interest in the remaining characters and left them for dead. After a short time without food or water, they soon were. Now I have to basically restart the campaign in a different location and I'm making everyone start at first level. How is that for the "Critical Failures"?
