D'ni is the name of the civilization on which this page is based. Some of you may be familiar with the "linking" books in Myst or Riven. These books were created by the D'ni. Over many Mellienia , the D'ni perfected the Books, and used them to link to "Ages" as they were called. The D'ni did not create these worlds, they merely created the "bridge", or linking book, to those worlds. Time, as well as space, did not matter. No matter how much space there was between the worlds, it didn't matter as long as the planet had existed, was existing, or would exist. After the D'ni died out, the last decendants, Ghen, father of Atrus and son of Ti'ana, belived that he could rebuild D'ni. Of course, such a task was impossible, for D'ni was vaster than anyone could imagine. After giving birth to Atrus, Ghen's wife died, and Gehn left his son with Atrus's grandmother, for her to raise. Apparently, he went mad, for he was so obsessed with rebuilding D'ni that his punishment for Atrus for disobeying him was to lock him in a cell, with a linkingbook and a blank book. After several years, Atrus finally trapped Gehn on an Age called Riven, from which he escaped to into an Age that his grandmother had written. She called it Myst. From there, a new story begins, but you can read all of this for yourself in the books
Myst: The Book of Atrus
Myst: The Book of Ti'ana
and
Myst: The Book of D'ni
They are all very good books. I have read them all. If you are trying to fill in the pieces of the Myst and Riven connection, these Books will really help.
