The Eridani Light Hose is an organization of computer gamers who play MechWarrior2 netmechDOS on Kali. We are organized into regiments and battalions in order to play in The Registry, a strategic war between the Houses and the Clans located and organized here.
There are currently three regiments of the Eridani Light Horse, the 21st, 71st, and the 151st Regiments. These regiments are then broken down into battalions. In a typical battalion, there are 12 pilots divided into 3 lances. These battalions (Black Paladins, Dark Riders, Kerensky's Favorites, Black Mantis, Aegean Guards, and the Bloody Half Hundred) train, help, and learn from each other in order to uphold the ELH contracts and work for the restoration of the Star League.
Our goal is simple...to have fun, and what better way to achieve this than by eradicating the Clans from the Inner Sphere.
When do we play?
All the time. With well over 100 members, it is not unusual to see an ELH pilot on Kali at all hours of the day. Pilots from all battalions show up at different times of the day.
There are two official days during the week that ELH holds a practice session. These days and times can be found here.
However, these times are no the ONLY times. Each individual battalion might have its own
practice schedule; check with your CO. In addition, open practice occurs all the time.
How do we play?
Exceptionally well. Thank you. Engagements in ELH practice can range from a Free For All (ffa) to a 3 v 3 team play. Our standard battle composition is 2 v 2 team play, for this is how most of the battles will occur on The Registry.
Once you are assigned to a battalion, you will choose a wingman. You will practice with your
wing as much as possible until you perform as one. This is the heart of an effective lance.
What do I do to join?
Go here and fill out the application. You will receive a response within 24 hours.
What happens after I join?
Once you have signed up and have received a response, you will be listed as a TC (training cadet). Your mission is to play with as many ELH pilots as possible. Get to know them and learn as much as possible. Next you will need to go on a tour.
The tour consists of several different missions and one ffa. An instructor will accompany you on the tour and instruct you on the different objectives for the various missions. The instructors will also be observing the TC on how they pilot their mech, handle heat, and their use of weapons.
Missions include: Steal the Plans, Defend/Destroy, Hit/Run, Scavenger Hunt, and King of the Hill.
Once the tour is completed, you will be assigned to a battalion and promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Once you arrive in your new battalion, your CO will place you in your lance. Your lance will consist of 4 pilots including yourself. Meet, learn, and play with your lance as much as possible, for they will be the ones guarding your back once a battle breaks out.
Train with them or others in ELH as much as possible. Work on performing as a team, since this is the surest route to success.
You will most likely be assigned a Rifleman upon joining the Eridani Light Horse. Using this mech you will learn how to maneuver, use your jump jets, and perform your duties as a wingman.
Once your CO feels confident in your performance, you will be assigned a heavier mech, usually a Warhammer.
Advancement in rank can also be achieved. One way is to become a true team leader on the
battlefield as well as off. Being friendly, helpful, and deadly will surely help your advancement.
Also by helping ELH in other matters can lead to advancement in command. Helping with email,
web pages, recruiting, and organizing practices are great ways. Always check with your CO
before taking on any responsibilities.
We just don't want pilots, we want pilots who take an active roll.
Thank you for your time, and welcome to the Eridani Light Horse.
