In the begining
the land of Britannia was rife with creatures of evil. Unfortunately, these
troubled times divided men based on the inner workings of their hearts.
Some chose the paths of least resistance and decided to proper by inflicting
misery on others. They decided to prey upon there fellow man and gain wealth
and notoriety by murdering and plundering the innocents. Fortunately, all
did not follow this path of darkness. Some few citizens of Britannia chose
the paths of goodness, decency, and honor. However, the land was not safe
for a person to venture out into the wilds alone. The forces of evil had
banded together. The land had become full of marauding bands of murderers,
thieves, and thugs. The few good people of the land quickly realized the
necessity of forming brotherhoods to counteract the forces of evil. Throughout
the land people turned to men and women of all walks of life to lead them
through these troubled times.
Some few citizens
of the city of Trinsic turned to a man of singular wit and honor to stem
the tide of chaos. The mantle of leadership was thrust upon Corwyn of Avonne,
despite initial protests he accepted his role to lead a brotherhood of
knights. Thus the Knights of the Gryphon were born. One may ask how they
happened upon a name so strange. The original members of the guild labored
long and hard on a name that would convey the proper purpose of this new
body. They chose the Gryphon because it brings forth images of power, nobility,
and brotherhood. It combines the fierce loyalty and power of a lion with
the noble soring of an eagle, strength tempered by goodness.
The noble Corwyn
of Avonne forged a group of people of like mind into a force of goodness
and brotherhood in an evil land. The Knights of the Gryphon travelled the
land helping any in need. Through these virtuous deeds the Knights of the
Gryphon attracted others of similar mettle to join their ranks, many of
the present guild elders joined at this time; Axil, Lee Marin, Casper,
and Moondance. Shortly, after adding these four members to the guild others
found there way to the brotherhood. The Knights of the Gryphon rescued
the JustBlades from the liches and zombies of the foul dungeon Shame. A
surprise attack had left Jessalyn and Tyarm JustBlade sorely pressed, but
the Knights of the Gryphon beat back the evil and rescued them. Upon seeing
the nobility demonstrated by the Knights of the Gryphon, the JustBlades
were heartened to find such people in Britannia. When asked to become members
of this brotherhood they readily consented.
The guild continued
to grow and prosper throughout the lands of Britannia. The members came
together for companionship and to mete out justice against evil. As time
passed Corwyn of Avonne felt that he had done much to bring order to the
chaotic lands. Corwyn decided he would follow a fair maid to the mythic
lands of Catskills. This was
land that was
also in need of the courage and nobility of the Gryphon. And
so another chapter of the guidl was begone and another light pushed the
darkness back a little further. And so the history of the Knights
of the Gryphon did take two directions.
On Catksills
things did begine slowly as Corwyn and his lady Jayn did venture thoughout
the land meeting its peoples. MacTavish Jr did come from Chesapeake
to lend some aid though he did journey off on to the lonely reaches of
Catskills for long periods of time returning seldom. Soon after
the guild did add to its membership the valiant knights knows as Thorgrom
and Masterbates. The energetic Sir Bowen did join the
guild and was a font of exuberance and daring. The next to
join this stalwart band was Tyarm, Thak and the lady Lythande.
They soon added to their group the smith Duncan MacTavish, cousin to MacTavish
Jr. Another craftsman named Mjolnir the Hand became a guild member
as well as the renowned warrior Jennan Tar.
As time went
by they have fought many evils and still stand vigilant against those who
would prey upon the weak and innocent.
BACK ON CHESAPEAKE
On Chesapeake
it was a sad time for the remaining Knights of the Gryphon, but fortunately
Corwyn of Avonne provided well for the guild he had forged. He placed the
weight of command upon the capable Lord Lee Marin. This begins a new chapter
for the Knights of the Gryphon.
Lee Marin as
the Guildmaster of the Knights of the Gryphon lead the brotherhood to new
heights. The membership of the guild topped the 20 member mark. The Knights
added such important members as Ouijan Morteda, Slotus, Intonsus, Johan,
Drakon, Haphaesta, cleave, Ram Solo, Laerin Starglow, Michael, and Marin's
lovely wife Dakota. The Knights of the Gryphon also boasted a 4 building
complex dominated by an impressive tower. The Knights accomplished many
other things; hunting the many dungeons of Britannia, the Wrong Dungeon
clean out, the Destard Death Dash, and the first Guild Championships.
As time passed
some members decided to retire and rest from their many encounters with
evil; including the Guildmaster himself, Lee Marin. The Knights of the
Gryphon had reached another period of change. Lee Marin had invested much
time into the guild and also into the tutelage of his second Tyarm JustBlade.
Thus begins the next chapter for the Knights of the Gryphon.
Tyarm JustBlade
assumed the mantle of leadership and instituted many changes with the help
of a returning Lee Marin, Ouijan Morteda, and others. The guild restructured
using a system of ranks for its members, complemented by a system of orders
depicting virtues. The guild has implemented plans and membership is growing
again. The Knights have welcomed St. Michael and Ola Mystique into their
august body. In addition, the guild has built a new 2 building complex
with the aspirations of opening a Knights of the Gryphon General Store.
The Knights of the Gryphon have recommitted themselves to becoming a force
in Britannia that combats evil in its many forms.
Unfortunately
their new vision of the future was cut short. In a huge defeat to the clutches
of evil, most members were badly beaten. So hurt that they retired as Knights.
With so few Knights remaining it was decided that they would retire the
Knights of the Gryphon. The others have gone their seperate ways with promises
to keep in touch with everyone. The Knights live on in all members heart's,
and will truly live on forever... |
