- Benedict: Benedict is the essential warrior. Master of himself and the blade, along with military tactics and any weapon imaginable. It is conceivable that he is his father’s match in tactics, and none match him in pure skill with weaponry. Hampered not by the loss of an arm, Prince Benedict is the leader of Amber’s defenses in her times of greatest need. A tall and skinny man, he can frequently seem to be dour and taciturn, but does occasionally present a sense of humor. He is the oldest of Oberon’s children thought to be alive.
- Bill Roth: Bill is a councilor and advisor for both King Random and King Merlin. He is quick to befriend a person, but beware of betraying him. Though he is a normal human, he has friends in high places. He has done favors for both Amber and Chaos, along with individuals such as Merlin, Random, Fiona, Benedict, Corwin, Rinaldo, and the list goes on and on.
- Bleys: A prince of Amber, perhaps one of the more pleasant individuals that you might meet in that family. It might be that he is more dangerous than he seems, and there are stories circulating that he was part of a shadow-coup just before the Patternfall War. There are also accounts of his failed attack on Mt. Kovlar with Corwin, but that was surely just to keep Eric from being crowned king.
- Brand: When last we left the insane prince Brand, he had an arrow through his neck, services of Prince Caine, and was falling into the infinite Abyss. Now, there are types of demons, which may leave the Abyss, but he wasn’t a demon. It is generally believed that he is irreversibly dead. King Merlin claims to have seen his pattern ghost about 11 years ago, but that is the last time that any one saw Brand.
- Caine: Prince Caine is assumed dead. He was buried more than a decade ago after being shot in the head by Brand’s son. All of Amber mourned his death, though some markedly more than others. You always worked for what you thought was best for Amber, and you will be missed.
- Coral: Queen of Kasfa, the daughter of Oberon, she who wore the Jewel of Judgement for over a year as an eyepiece, and mother of Merlin’s first child. She lacks perhaps the experience that the other elder Amberites have, but she lacks none of their guile. She seems to be a relatively nice person, but has come out ahead in all of her workings. It does seem that she is a good queen and a good counterpoint to her husband, Luke.
- Corwin: Prince Corwin has seldom been seen since he went to go and explore the shadows cast by his pattern. He has relinquished his claim on the throne of Amber, and has only been seen on occasion. It is said that there are a handful of special trumps that are designed to reach him in his section of shadow, and he does seem to appear when he is needed.
- Dalt: Dalt is of the bloodline of Amber, most likely the issue of a rape committed by Oberon. He hasn’t recently been seen at the head of an army on its way to Amber, but that doesn’t mean that he is through. He may have decided that his grudge isn’t against Amber, but against the man who killed his mother. If so, may he find peace in death, as Bleys is a tough customer, and not averse to disposing of annoyances.
- Dara: The Mother of Despil, Merlin, and Jurt, stepmother of Mandor, wife of Lord Grambell Sewall, head of house Sewall, seductress of Corwin (like that’s all that hard...,) and a Chaos Lord (Lady?) in her own right. Lady Dara is perhaps a bit overwhelming as a mother, and somewhat the perfectionist, she also seems to really care about her sons.
- Deirdre: Prince Brand pulled Princess Deirdre into the Abyss. She was loved by much of the family, and perhaps one of the least conniving members of the royal family. She will be missed through out all time.
- Despil: King Merlin’s older brother, he declined to take the throne of Chaos. He is still the head runner for the position of Lord of Sewall. He does not play prominently in the politics of Chaos, but is obviously a tough customer.
- Dworkin: MadMan of Amber. Dworkin has always been a little insane, but the last few years have seen him restabilize. With the repair of the Pattern, Dworkin has only to contend with his connection to the Logrus. He is the kindly old grandfather of Amber, a man who is capable of playing with a baby for hours, but also capable of counseling the destruction of reality. Not a man to be trifled with, but locked away in his enigmatic riddles are the answers to almost all of the problems of reality.
- Eric: Prince Eric was Corwin’s counterpart. The two had a rivalry that extended across the ages. It is said that before having Corwin’s eyes put out with hot pokers, he forced the Prince to crown him King of Amber. He died defending Amber from threats from chaos. It seems that Prince Corwin, after the fact had forgiven Eric, but it was to little, too late. Another point of interest is the bit of speculation that the wounds that he received in the battle that killed him were not enough to cause his death. Several theories have sprung up including speculation that his usage of the Jewel of Judgement weakened him or that he was poisoned by a sibling, or even that he faked his own death.
- Fiona: Princess Fiona is, as everyone knows, a short redhead. She has many sides, and several are frequently evident. Her brother Corwin called her flighty, she has shone a capacity for treachery and collusion, being one of the primary members of the faction against Eric, she has expressed her preference of being a puppet master to being a ruler, she does seem to lighten up when not around her siblings, though she is always dangerous.
- Florimel (Flora): Princess Florimel is perhaps the least competent of the princes and princesses of Amber. She focuses more on appearances than power politics, and is always the consummate host. She often seems harmless, and part of a power group because they seem to be on top, she also keeps hand grenades in her purse "just in case."
- Gerard: The loyal brother. Prince Gerard is not the most intelligent Amberite, but he loves his family. He is slow to come to a decision, but is tenacious when he finally begins to act. He is one of the strongest men in all of shadow. He knows that he is easily deceived by his siblings, and thus frequently tends to be defensive. He had promised to kill Corwin if he had anything to do with a string of deaths and attempted murders in the family. Gerard is an ethical center and foundation for the children of Oberon.
- Gilva: Gilva Hendrake was once the lover of Merlin, and currently is the bodyguard of the King. She tends toward the mercurial, much like the Courts of Chaos. She, like all of the Hendrakes is a warrior born and bred. A lover of battle and follower of a strict code of ethics. She is a descendant of Benedict, but does not have his calm reserve. Whereas Prince Benedict might ignore someone he finds to be an annoyance, Gilva is likely to challenge him or her to a duel. Perhaps she will live long enough to be tempered by her years.
- Julia Barnes: Once Merlin’s lover on the shadow Earth where he went to college, they had a bit of a falling out over his inherent distrust of the ones he loves (well, do you blame him?) She went on to become a sorceress of no small water, and she conspired with several of his other enemies to destroy him. Needless to say, they failed. She and Merlin eventually reconciled, though they have never resumed their relationship. This is a god thing, because one of her co-conspirators was Jurt, who later fell in love with her. Now that she and Jurt are married, it is likely that he would rip Merlin’s genitals off, through his neck, if he ever tried to take her away.
- Julian: Prince Julian, protector of Arden, the rider of Morganstern, and all around unpleasant guy. Prince Julian acts in the interest of himself, of his forest, and of the crown, in that order. He is not actually a bad guy, but he has nothing against, say setting his hellhounds on his brothers, or having his horse beaten by a man wearing a brother’s clothing.
- Jurt: Merlin’s younger brother, Jurt has sworn allegiance to Merlin. It seems that he is willing give up his previous enmity for his brother. He is currently off in shadow enjoying his honeymoon with his new wife, Julia Barnes. When they return to Chaos, he will most likely take residence in
Back to Top
- Llewella Lewella is the forgotten princess of Amber. She spends her time in Rebma, the Mirror City beneath the waves, and seldom involves herself with family politics. She displays a distinct apathy towards toward the family game, beyond that of even Benedict.
- Luke/Rinaldo: The son of Dead Brand, King of Kasfa, ultimate salesman, slayer of Caine, and close friend of the current king of Chaos. Luke is looked upon with some small suspicion by the court of Amber, as he IS the son of Prince Brand, and he DID kill Prince Caine, but all of the elder members of the family seem willing to say that he was justified in killing Caine. At least that is what is said in public.
- Mandor: Merlin’s half brother, the king-maker of house Sewall, and a sophisticated, dangerous man. Mandor excels at everything he does, be it culinary practices or conjuration. He is a first rate sorcerer and manipulator, a man who plays in the same circles of Princess Fiona. He is a master of the art of making his opponents extremely uncomfortrable. It is rumored that if he wishes you dead, you are, perhaps, not long for this world.
- Martin: The Cyber Punk Prince. Martin is the son of Random, and thus in line for the throne of Amber. Martin plays the alto sax, sports a green mohawk , and a data jack at the base of his skull. He has spent time on the techno edges of shadow, and is familiar with things beyond the scope of many Amberites.
- Merlin: The current King of Chaos, son of Corwin. Merlin is capable of being a real bastard from time to time but also shows a gentler side. Sometimes he will spurn friends and lovers, and others he will dash off on some noble quest. He collects powers. He has walked the Pattern and the Logrus, is a Trump artist and a Sorcerer, and has even made a device that is capable of surveying almost all of reality through its ability to make trumps.
- Oberon: The dead king of Amber, he. Oberon was not a well-loved man within his family. He was not a nice man, nor a just man, but he died saving reality.
