The 10 dumbest things ever said in Utopia (In no particular order)
"Wizards? Magic is worthless" – Sure it is. In one of the early betas, I was invaded by a kingdom literally twice my size. He had about 30k peasants when I first took a look at him but only 10 wizards. 5 minutes later he had 20k peasants. He should of built more wizards.
"Thieves are too expensive. Who needs ‘em?" When You’ve had someone kidnap peasants from you at 1k peasants a shot and burn 300 acres of housing in the interim you’ll realize why you needed the thieves.
"Our regent stinks, if I attack him a couple of times I’ll show everyone that I’m superior" – Attacking your regent or anyone else on your kingdom is insane. The people in your kingdom will be your greatest allies or your biggest enemies. If they’re your biggest enemies you won’t be around long.
"I’ll have to send most of my army to attack him and I’ll leave myself wide open, but it’ll be worth it" – In the short beta someone sent all their soldiers to get through my defense. I had the number one NW on the kingdom so it must of been quite a moral victory for them. Unfortunately, they sent most of their forces and I was able to counter strike them 5 consecutive times which crippled them to the point that they never caught back up.
"Things are boring, we need a good war right now!" – Are wars exciting? Yes. Do they help your NW? Unless it’s a slaughter, not at all. The little provinces get beaten up, the big province have their homes burned, and even if you have some success you start to get land fat from all the grabs. Plus who knows how many alliance buddies, multis, and island allies the other side can get to attack you. War is an extremely risky proposition that rarely turns out to be profitable.
"They are trying to make peace with us. Ha! That must mean we’re winning. " – Maybe they are just smart enough to realize grudge wars suck and are trying to make peace before committing all their resources to an attack. Remember they may have allies.
"Sure they have 3 or 4 huge provinces on that island, but that’s not going to stop me from hitting an easy target."" – So what happens when the giants counter strike you? The question isn’t can you take the province you’re attacking, it’s can you withstand a counter-strike from the biggest one on the island.
"I'm the regent, I can do whatever I want" – Until you get voted out or beaten down because no one supports you. The regent desperately needs the support of all his fellow kingdom members because the regent is target #1 for a lot of people the first time there's a fight.
"Lol. That kingdom is threatening me? I’m tough enough to take on any 5 of them all by myself" – We ran into someone who thought that in the long beta. After keeping his peasants under 1k for 5 days and continually running thieves and wizards at him he surrendered. Without us ever penetrating his defenses one time.
"Anyone who attacks me gets counter attacked. No if’s, and’s, or but’s" – Like that old Kenny Rogers song says "you gotta know when to hold em, you gotta know when to fold em, you gotta know when to walk away". Sometimes it’s better to walk away from a fight where you’re going to get hurt bad than to attack and get beaten down. Don’t think about it like a one on one confrontation, think of it like a leader of province would think of it. What’s in the best interests of your people?
