Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about Utopia. These questions come up again and again and here are the answers you've been waiting for. Q: I saw a kingdom where everyone had similar names (pdpdpdpqdpq, Sauron, Carnage, etc). Are they multis? A: No. they are people who were on the same kingdom last round and decided to name themselves the same thing to show unity or just for the for the fun of it. Q: My military is deserting me! What do I do!?! A: Get some food ASAP. Build farms, rob granaries, cast fertile lands etc. Your military will only desert because of lack of food (not lack of homes as it sometimes rumored). Q: My peasant population keeps fluctuating up and down even though I haven't built anymore homes. Why is that? A: Your troops also take up space. When they die in combat it frees up more space for peasants. Also, troops in training don't take up housing space. So as your troops go into training space is made available for peasants. As they come out, they crowd peasants out of their homes. Q: Can you kill someone by killing all their peasants A: Yes. This has changed because in previous rounds you could not kill all of an opponents peasants and at a certain point that would simply cease to drop. Now once you pass the 300 peasant mark the peasants drop at 10 per Utopian day. On the up side at a certain point thief and mage operations still cease to kill peasants. A player who continually kidnaps peasants could in all liklihood forstall death quite a while even with no houses but eventually those peasants would drop to zero and the Grim Reaper would come calling. Q: How long does the game last? A: Two months or so is the current length of the game (wished it was shorter). There is no exact date set because Mehul and company need the available time to make the programming changes for the next round and may not know exactly when they'll have adequate time. Q: I attacked someone and didn't get through! I thought I sent enough troops so it must be a bug right? A: Highly doubtful. There are a lot of factors that can work against you on a land grab. Guardstations can add up to 30% to their defense. They can have a large War Science advantage on you, maybe as much as 20%. There is a random factor that can go either way from around 5-15%. The regent bonus can give them another 10% bonus. A protection Spell can add 10% more to their defense. Also, spy military reports with just one spy can be off as much as 20%. Add all that up and your opponent could be twice as strong as he appears. Q: Are all the top players cheaters because no one could ever grow that fast? A: Although some of the top players are cheaters, many are not. The reason they seem to grow so fast in comparison to smaller players is because of their large amount of peasants and income. As an average I always figure that for every hundred acres a player has he is producing another 1000 peasants and 3000 GC . So a player at 500 acres will have 5k (500 troops to draft) peasants and 15k income (averages) as compared to a player 1k acres with 10k peasants (1000 troops to draft) and 30K income (averages). So if they have more soliders to train and more gold to train them, they will grow faster. Q: How do you make your name appear to be blank in the general forums? A: In the name slot, type | |. That a "|" "space" "|" Make sure to turn off your ID number because that will show up and mess up your pretty dark space :). Q: If I fail a thief operation does the other person know I did it? A: Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It seems to be about a 50% chance either way. Q: My thieving ratio is way better than this province I was thieving but I still failed! Why is that? A: There could be other factors like Watch Towers and thieving sciences but there is also a large random element to theft. I have failed in robbing vaults on people with zero thieves before even :) Do keep in mind that the effectiveness of your thieves drops and your losses rise as your stealth drops however. That's all for now. As I see new questions come up in the general forums I will add them here. This will be a living document. Good gaming everyone. |
