Okay, here's my final set of suggested changes for the next round of Utopia. I have dropped or modified ideas I had that seemed too complicated or extremely unlikely to be added. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Thievery: | ||||||||||||||||||||||
The base amount of land considered by Utopia for all thieving operations will be set at a minimum of 1000 acres. This will mean that if you have 2000 thieves and 200 acres you have 2 to 1 thieves and not 10 to 1 thieves. This is a very reachable number for legit players because you start with 200 acres and are given 600 acres of free land by Echelon over the course of a 2 month long game. While this will cause minimal harm to legit thief provinces, it will make it very difficult for thief multis to remain effective because it will be too much work now to make several thief provinces and build them up to 1000 acres. Also, the amount of stealth should be increased by 25%. Giving people more opportunities to use their thieves. Drop Arson - The most over powered attack in the game should be gotten rid of for the good of the game. Drop Rob Banks - This will save time for people trying to find targets and will elminte the blatant cash farming that is happening. Later in the article I will add some ways to help make up for this income loss. Some new thief ops that should be added include: Drug Armies - Reduce an opponents military effectiveness by 10% for 6 hours. This is not cumlative. Only one operation at a time can effect a province. Scribblings - Allows you to post an anonymous message to another kingdoms forum. Frame-up - You must get a successful frame-up operation against the person being framed and the province you want to trick. If successful you can frame a province making it appear they failed a thief operation against the other province. This would be very useful if you say arsoned 75 of their homes in 3 operations and then framed another province to make it look as if they failed an operation right afterwards. Scout Sciences - This would allow you to see an opponents sciences. |

Magic | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Increase the amount of mana available by 25% allowing more spells to be cast. Also, decrease the rune cost of all spells by 25%. |

Hide forces - (from Prof on Utopian forums) A reversible Illusionary forces spell that makes your standing army seem much smaller than it is. Love Potion - Doubles the rate of Peasant growth from 3% to 6% per hour for 12-24 hours. Stop Heart - Kills 1% of an opponents thieves. Create Elemental - Creates a magical creature who fights with your armies for the next hour. A 1% bonus to attack for each creature created. Magical Vessel - Creates 5 magical boats per casting to transport your troops. Last 24 hours. |

Have Plunder, Learn and Missionary take 15% of an opponents resources (science, peasants, cash) regardless of the size of the opponent. These missions are currently almost useless and desperately need to be upgraded. Add the following new attacks Slaughter - Kills 5% of an opponents thieves and mages Ambush - Once you set an ambush you can't for 18 hours however anyone who attacks you during that time will lose 25% more troops. Deathblow - Allow an attack that wil take 25% more land than a traditional grab but none of the land is captured. It is simply destroyed. This would be useful in attempting to kill another province. |

Buildings: | ||||||||||||||||||||||
In order to help offset the loss of Rob Banks drop building costs by 33%. Also increase the amount of money made per employed peasant from 2.25 GC to 3 GC. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Drop Plazas - This may seem radical but it allows us to do some other things that add to building variety like: Homes - Make each home house 75 people instead of 50 Farms - Increase the output of farms by 50% as well Guardhouses - Decrease them to 10 x 2 = 20% maximum Strongholds - Increase them to 10 x 4 = 40% maximum Watchtowers - Increase them to 10 x 5 = 50% maximum Mines - Increase their output to 40 GC each (again helping offset the loss of rob banks) |

Other Changes: | ||||||||||||||||||||||
- Allow War to be declared with anyone in the world as long as the kingdom is within 50% of your NW - Allow Tribute to be given from one kingdom to another. The Tribute will be spread equally among the kingdom that recieves it. - Allow retaliations for land grabs within 24 hours of an attack at 10% of the grabbers land minimum regadless of NW. - Institute the following war bonus's - 15% to income, food, and runes, and attack power. -10% to building costs. YOu gget the following amounts of land from people you are at war with: 10% minimum from all attacks, 15% for provinces from 25% - 75% of your NW, and a whopping 20% of the land of someone 75% of your size of larger. A large -15% penalty should be applied for attacking someone other than a kingdom you at war with (this will keep the war bonus's from being abused). - Add a search engine that allows you to search for targets within a certain NW and amount of land range. - Make it so that military will leave for lack of housing. Combined with dropping arson this will end the reign of those provinces that drop land to get insane thief and wizard ratios. - break up the kingdoms - Make the registration form for a Utopian province much larger so that it takes around 10 to 15 minutes to fill out which will discourage people from making huge numbers of provinces. - Cut the price of dragons by 50% and the soliders required to fight them by 33%. They are so expensive now they are almost useless. - Only allow troops to be trained 3 times per day maximum. This will stop people from logging in every hour to train troops. - Add a fame ranking that allows negative fame for attacking people under 25% of your NW. Have the fame you would normally gain be subtracted from your score for attacking a province under 25% of your NW. - Add a top 50 for each race and for the amount of aid given. Also have an infamous 100 with the top 100 newbie bashers listed (based on negative fame) |

These Changes would accomplish a number of things: | ||||||||||||||||||||||
1) Reducing Cheating - No more cash farms because Rob Banks is finished. The kingdoms would be broken up so the massive amounts of account trading that have occurred the last few games would all be for naught this time. The little 200 acre thief and wizard multis that have terrorized people for the last two rounds would be a thing of the past because of the higher thief ratio. 2) More War - The extensive war bonus's, cheaper Dragons, and dropping arson would be enough to insure that many more wars would be fought. 3) Attacks on larger targets - A number of options have been added to make attacking larger targets more viable. The stronghold bonus has been increased and the guardhouse bonus decreased. Drug Armies can lower the effectiveness of an opposing army and elementals can further increase your own effectiveness. 4) Balancing Thief and Wizard provinces - More spells and thief operations will be possible with the new options added and because of increased stealth you'll be able to do more operations. However, to specialize in either wizards or thieves you'll now have to put more work into it and get up to at least 1k acres to be truely effective. This will stop multis and will correct a massive game imbalance. 5) Increasing the speed of the game - You will no longer have to take the time to find a rob banks target which will save time. Training troops 3 times per day maximum will also save time for many people who feel compelled to train every hour to keep up with the top players. Also, between the increased frequency of War and the search engine, aquiring land will become much easier. All these things will save your players time and will save load on your server. |
