What are CAP's Specific Objectives?

• To provide Canada's rural communities with better and more affordable access to the information Highway and to raise awareness about its potential for creating jobs and growth.
  
• To stimulate the development of new electronic learning tools and services by and for rural communities.
  
• To provide Internet training facilities for local entrepreneurs, employees, educators, students and others interested in improving their information management and networking skills.
  
• To stimulate the electronic delivery of government and other services and obtain feedback from citizens about how they would like these presented.

What are CAP's Benefits to Communities?

There are many opportunities to benefit from Internet access. It depends on the community to see how these are best used. The primary opportunities and benefits are:

• Helping to train local entrepreneurs, educators and others in new information management, networking and other important employable skills.
  
• Making government services and information more accessible through electronic means.
  
• Finding and retrieving information on virtually any topic from anywhere in Canada or around the world.
  
• Allowing more efficient identification of business, job and promotional opportunities for individuals, business and communities.
  
• Helping local economic development and job creation through linking communities to the Information Highway.
  
• Ensuring equal access to new information technology skills for members of rural communities.
  
• Ensuring that young people are given access to the Internet.
  
• Giving local entrepreneurs an opportunity to see themselves on the Internet by having a home page.
  
• Ensuring that small and rural communities can be part of the social, cultural and economic mainstream of this country.
