Music In Her Eyes (a songfic)
by Neo Wicked Lady
Hiya, folks! This is my first songfic. When I heard this song, the idea just popped into my mind! I don't own the characters or the song, but I do own the words written here. :-) If you like it/ hate it, email me and tell me! I can be found @ gemgirl423@hotmail.com.
This song is the Backstreet Boy's song "Hey Mr.Dj (Keep Playin' This Song)" BTW, this takes place before any Usagi/Mamoru relations (and Pluto hasn't appeared).
Setsuna looked at her watch and then at the door of the new club. Sighing, she walked in listlessly.
"Konbanwa, Meioh-san!" called her boss. "Right on time as always! I love it when our new employees set such a good example."
"Hai, Taro-san." she replied. "Just let me change and I'll be back out to wait in a moment."
Setsuna weaved through the people to the back room where she had left her black waitress outfit. Slipping it on and laying her clothes carefully on a hanger, she straightened up and combed her fingers through her hair. As she was staring at her reflection, the waitress from last shift walked in.
"Heya, Setsuko! Have a good night. The crowd out there is pretty thick, but nothing you can't handle."
"Arigato, Hanaru. I think this is the last night I'll be here, though. I'm transferring to another part of Tokyo soon."
"Oh, that's awful! You were so great here, too. Well, it's been fun knowing you!" Hanaru said cheerfully.
"You too." Setsuna finished arranging her hair and walked out into the club's main area.
She wandered around serving customers as they took a break from the dancing. Though her smile was always in place, her eyes were sad. She turned down every offer to dance politely, and when the clock hit 7 she sat down for a break.
Her eyes rested on the door and at 7:07 sharp, Usagi and Minako walked into the club bustling with excitement. Pain flared in her dark red pupils, but was quickly smothered. Standing with a bright smile, she walked over to the two.
"May I get you ladies anything to drink this evening?"
Mamoru walked down the dark street aimlessly. He should be home resting from the latest youma battle, but for some reason he couldn't sleep. He kicked a pebble across the deserted road and watched it bump into a door. As it hit, the door opened and a young couple stumbled out of the building.
"That club is the best!" the girl said enthusiastically.
"Yep. ‘Bout time they opened one we could all go to!" the boy agreed.
The two walked away and Mamoru regarded the door with interest.
"This must be the new ‘Moon Revenge' place that just opened." he whispered to himself. "Might as well go in and see if it's interesting."
He entered and the chill of the night was immediately replaced by the warm, steamy weather of the club. People from 14 to 20 were out on the dance floor having a great time, but Mamoru decided to skip that part for a while. He sat at a table and a green haired waitress approached him. He ordered a Pepsi and turned to the people dancing. He spotted a few familiar faces, but froze when he saw one girl dancing with a group of friends.
"Odango..."
I could tell when I step in the room and I saw you standing there
There ain't no doubt about the way that you move
I couldn't help the way I stare
There was some mysterious force
Leading me here to you (lead me to you)
Lead me to you
The waitress brought him his drink quickly. She followed his eyes to the girl swaying with her friends and she shook her head.
"She's awfully young, but boy has she stood out all night! She's been here since 7 for a party with her friends. You wouldn't believe how many guys have asked her for a dance! But she turns them all down."
Mamoru nodded absently, his eyes drawn to the thin wisp of a girl in front of him. She was dressed for a night out in a small white skirt with a pink blouse topped with a white, fuzzy sweater. Her odangoes were tied off with two white bows that matched the sandal pumps on her feet.
The waitress took a hint that he wouldn't like to be bothered. She took her now empty tray and walked to the bar where she waited for the next order to be filled. Her eyes drifted back to him and remained there for quite some time.
"Setsuko! Snap out of it! You've got to bring that table their drinks."
"Hai, sir. Gomen." Setsuna picked up the tray and left, but her eyes never strayed from Mamoru.
One of her friends whispered something to Usagi and she giggled. Her sky blue eyes twinkled in the dim club. The song changed to a softer, pulsing rhythm and her dancing slowed, becoming a bit more sensuous. Mamoru licked his lips and stared at her like he had never seen her before.
So I stood there watchin' and I was hypnotized
About the rhythm of your body and the music in your eyes
And I was lost inside your world with you (ohh..)
The ice in his drink had long since melted by the time he took a sip. The condensing water on the outside of the glass stuck to his finger and left his palm damp. Without a second thought, he wiped it on the casual clothes he had been wearing and continued to watch Usagi dance and laugh with her friends.
"Usagi is so beautiful tonight..." he thought to himself with a small smile. "I wonder if she'd dance with me." His smile froze and a look of shock washed over his features. "WHAT AM I THINKING? This is ODANGO ATMA! The one who can't walk, the klutz who is barely passing school, who has friends who won't leave me alone, who dances like an angel and glows in the soft light..."
Shaking his head to clear it of the strange new thoughts, he stood up and walked over to the distracted waitress.
"Want to dance?"
Usagi paused from her exertion to take a breath. "Mina-chan, this was a great idea! I'm having so much fun tonight, but I'm exhausted."
"Hai, Usagi-chan, so am I. Want to take a break?"
"Nah! I think if I sit down, I'll never be able to get back..." she trailed off as she caught sight of Mamoru dancing with a cute lady with green hair. Green hair??? It's gotta be dye...
"Usagi-chan? What is it?" asked Minako.
"How dare that insensitive JERK follow me here to this club!" shrieked Usagi.
"Gomen, Usagi-chan, but I don't think he followed you. Look - he's dancing with that other girl. It wasn't deliberate." Minako replied comfortingly.
"I've changed my mind. I'm sitting down." she huffed, dropping into a chair by the floor.
Minako shrugged and joined her.
A handsome young man soon came up and asked Minako to dance, leaving Usagi alone at their table. She put her head on her hand and watched the couples dance to a fast song.
Unbidden, her eyes fell on Mamoru. He was dancing with the same girl and he was smiling like he was enjoying it.
"Baka," she whispered, "I bet you're just waiting for a chance to make fun of me. Well, even if you are gorgeous, I won't let you!" Thinking over her last thought, Usagi sweat dropped. How could she think Mamoru was even *cute*, let alone gorgeous?
Taking another look for purely scientific reason (^.~) she began to rethink her last statement. He was wearing a pair of loose fitting jeans and a short sleeved white dress shirt. His ebony hair was slightly tousled from the wild dance and his cheeks were a bit red from the exercise.
"Not gorgeous..." whispered Usagi. "Magnificent. Stunning. What a hunkmeister...No! I can't think about Mamoru like that!"
Standing up again, she walked back out onto the dance floor.
Now it feels like it could be romance
As you dance across the floor
Every move that your body makes
Only makes me want you more
And it seems like the song's moving fast
How can we make it last (make it last)
Make it last, some how
Please don't stop, please don't stop... Setsuna thought, pressing herself against Mamoru. This had been her dream for years - just dancing with her Endy-sama. She felt like she was flying in his arms, and her heart was filled with joy. Love suffused her beautiful features and she was truly radiant. Sadly, Mamoru never noticed. His eyes were always caught on the trail of blonde hair a few feet away.
The song ended and Setsuna smiled at him wistfully.
"I've got to get back to my shift. Thank you for the dance." she said. She backed away, never taking her eyes off of him even as he turned away to talk to a different brunette. A single tear spilled over her eye and trailed down her cheek, but she left it. She had work to do, and only 3 minutes and 54 seconds to do it.
Walking over towards the male DJ, she grabbed a soda and added some sleeping pills to it. "I brought you a drink." she said softly, setting it next to him.
"Thank you, pretty lady!" he smirked, looking her over. Her teeth clenched tightly, but she ignored it. She moved behind him and caught him smoothly as he fell backwards in the next 15 seconds, and set him down behind the DJ booth. Pulling a hat over her eyes, she searched for the right song to play. After finding it, she pulled the hat lower and began to play the opening bit. She watched the scene unfold before her like a picture book.
A slow song came on over the speakers and Mamoru left the girl he had been dancing with. He took a step towards a stool, then turned around for one last look at the girl he had been watching covertly all night. He caught her watching him as well, and when their eyes met he started walking towards her.
"Usagi-san? May I have this dance?" he asked quietly.
She couldn't believe her ears. He hadn't called her Odango atma, for one thing, and even better - HE wanted to dance with HER!
"H-hai, Mamoru-san, I would love to."
She reached up her hands and clasped them behind his neck. His hands slid around her waist and rested comfortably on the small of her back, and they began to dance with the song.
Usagi snuck glances at him when she thought he wasn't looking, and he did the same. Neither could understand exactly what was going on, but it felt so good to dance together.
"So, Mamoru, why'd you want to dance with me?" she asked, desperate to break the silence.
"Because you look beautiful tonight, Usagi-chan." murmured Mamoru, pulling her closer.
Usagi gasped and looked at his face in shock. What is he doing? she wondered.
What am I DOING? And why do I like this so much? He thought, confusion in his eyes.
Coherent thought left the two dancers when their eyes met. Sapphire blue fought with the clearest azure and lost. Neither could break the gaze and sparks began to fly between the two.
As you keep on dancing I am hypnotized
By the rhythm of your body
And the music in your eyes
I was lost inside your world with you (with you)
Ohh. . .
Taking a deep breath, Mamoru looked at the angel in his arms. Her eyes were wide and bright with a nameless emotion that flooded through them. He pulled her even tighter and they moved perfectly in time with each other. Their bodies seemed connected - and they liked it.
Out on the floor, in my arms she's gotta be
Let's get it on (let's get it on)
Jam all night long
Mr.DJ, Mr.DJ (play it play it for me)
Ohh. . .ohh. . .
"Call her that nickname you've been dreaming of, Endy-sama. You know that's what you want to do right now. Play it out likes it's supposed to go and nobody get hurt." Setsuna muttered wryly under her breath. No one but me. Making a few adjustments, the song started back a bit to a matching version of the previous chorus. This song would be on as long as they needed it.
"Usako..." said a soft voice above her head. Usagi watched him with amazement as he slowly lowered his head closer to hers. Her breathing quickened and she could feel his soft breath tingling on her lips.
"Mamo...chan..."she half moaned as she saw desire in the depths of his dark blue eyes.
Close your eyes (close your eyes)
And imagine (just imagine)
Let the music put you in a zone (put you in a zone)
Yeah
I get lost (I get lost)
Lost inside the groove with you (lost inside of you)
When you do the bits you do
Come on in, work your body, work your body
His lips captured hers in a sweet, passionate kiss. Fire ignited at Usagi's mouth and raced through her veins, making her blood boil. Her fingers tangled in his dark hair and pulled him closer, wanting more of the wonderful heat from him. His rose scented skin was soft on hers, a feeling she had never felt before or wanted as much.
Mamoru groaned as she pressed against him and he gave in to his feelings. The kiss increased in depth and meaning and soon the two forgot that anyone else was around. If they hadn't needed air, they might have stayed like that for eternity. When the kiss did stop, though, both turned away embarrassed.
Setsuna whimpered and turned away. Her beautiful, exotic eyes sparkled with moisture which she refused to shed.
Hey, Mr.DJ, jam all night long
Hey, Mr.DJ play that song for me
Hey, Mr.DJ, jam all night long
Hey, Mr.DJ play that song for me
"I was wondering if you two were ever going to stop!" scolded Minako. Before either could say a word, she continued, "But you have got to be the cutest couple I have ever seen. Trust this Goddess of Love!"
The mysterious DJ nodded and said softly. "I agree, Minako-chan." She brushed a lock of green hair out of her face and looked at the three. Tears ran unheeded down her cheeks as she picked up her glass of water. She raised it in a mock-solute toward the group and said,
"To Crystal Tokyo."
In a small flash of light, she disappeared.
Out on the floor, in my arms she's gotta be
Let's get it on (let's get it on)
Jam all night long
Mr.DJ, Mr.DJ (play it play it for me)
Ohh. . .ohh. . .
Out on the floor, in my arms she's gotta be
Let's get it on (let's get it on)
Jam all night long
Mr.DJ, Mr.DJ (play it play it for me)
Ohh. . .ohh. . .
