The following is my first attempt at reviewing a movie so what you see may not measure up to other people's reviews and everything you see is my personal opinion. Nothing I say is based on anything other than opinion. If you have suggestions for my next review feel free to mail me.
This movie had one of the most original stories I have ever seen in all my 17 years on this planet. To put it bluntly I was amazed. When the movie got out I couldn't stop talking about the originality of it and how nothing like it had ever been done before. The story, if you didn't get into it, was rather dull because there wasn't a lot of action involved... it was all drama but somehow it still managed to be superbe. If you like a good plot this is definitely a movie you should rent or go see. It has been a while since I saw it so I can't recall all the details except for it was a work of art.
The acting in this film focussed mainly on Jim Carrey, obviously, and I know some people out there would groan when they heard that. Lately he hasn't had the greatest films released but this is an exception to be sure. Jim plays for the first time, in this movie, a role which isn't simply comedy and acting stupid. This is really a heartfelt role and takes a superbe actor to pull off. The other characters in the film did a good acting job as well but Jim steals the show.
For the plot to work correctly and to get the viewer involved there had to be a convincing actor to play the part. They hit the bullseye when they selected Jim Carrey. If I was the producer I wouldn't have due to his past record as a comedian but would I have even been wrong. I can't say it enough... Jim's acting gave this flic the complete package it deserved. If you don't want to see this movie for the story go see it for the acting!
This movie did not contain a whole lot of special effects because they weren't needed and they probably would have ruined the whole show. It was not an action film so fancy explosions and the like were not needed. Wherever effects were utilized they were done fairly well and sometimes even in a funny manner. This movie definitely won't be recognized world wide for its special effects but it should be famous for everything else.
This film had a great deal of an effect on the viewer and it combined an excellent mixture of many emotions. One minute you would be nearly crying and the next almost falling off your seat laughing. It was simply amazing. This movie was one to make you think in the beginning and wonder why certain things occured. Like weird product shots in the middle of a scene for no reason. During the film I felt such emotions as sorrow, solitary, happiness, confusion, elation, and intriguement. I hope I spelled all those right:) Anyway if you want to see a film that has many effects on the viewer... you can't go wrong with this one.
Overall this film is nothing short of amazing but yet it is not a film suitable for all people. I guess you could say it is an acquired taste. There are funny parts, to be sure, and the action does flare up now and then but if you see it for some other reason than the story you may be dissapointed. When going to see this movie you have to be ready for anything and to let yourself see the movie for what it is and what it is trying to be. If you go in with a closed mind you will probably come out with one emotion only "it sucked." Don't do that because if you give The Trueman Show a chance you will discover it really had something to offer. Enjoy it for what it is!
