The Doomtrooper Card Game
A little background
The Games
Doomtrooper is set in the Mutant Chronicles Background World.
There is a fairly large range of Role Playing Supplements which
have fleshed out this Universe and Doomtrooper is the CCG
associated with it. Warzone is the Miniature Game associated with
it, and there is a Video Game (SNES/Sega) available. Allegedly
there is a computer game on the way (Mortificator) and a movie
script has already been written and James Cameron lined up to
produce.
The Background
The Human Race has moved into the rest of the Solar System.
All of the Inner Planets have been colonized and the Asteroid belt
as well. A tenth planet, Nero, has been discovered, and something
very horrible has been found on it.
On Nero, a seal of some kind was found and an outpost was set
up to try and figure out how to open the seal. When the seal
opened, it wasn't because of anything Humanity had done. It was
because That Which Shall Not Be Named awoke to find that it had a
new System to conquer. To this end, the Dark Legions came streaming
out of the gate on Nero and began its conquest of the System.
Humanity fell victim to this rampage and one man with a vision
formed an organization whose sole purpose was to support Hope in
humanity and to combat the Dark Legions, the Brotherhood was
created.
The Brotherhood took up the mantle of battling the Dark Legion
and requested help and support from the Corporations. Thus, the
Cartel was created, an organization made of Corporate resources
which helped fight the Dark Legion. The members of this organization
were named Doomtroopers because of their almost certain deaths in
fighting the Dark Legions.
Now, with the united front the brotherhood was creating, one
would think that a stand against the Dark Legion would occur, but
never forget that the Corporations, are just that, Corporate. They
are doing business. And while the Cartel is good for protecting the
security of the Corporations' consumers, they are always looking for
an edge in the business place.
The Dark Legion
The Dark legion, headed by That Which Shall not Be Named, are
split into five different groups each headed by a Dark Apostle.
These are Algeroth (The Apostle of War), Demnogonis (The Befouler),
Ilian (Mistress of the Void), Muawijhe (Lord of Visions), and Semai
(Lord of Spite).
Algeroth is the Apostle of War and his minions are designed to
strike fear into their opponents and then kill them. Many of his
minions are large, frightening, behemoths who are able to crush
average warriors in one blow.
Demnogonis is the Apostle of Disease. His minions specialize
in infecting opponents with debilitating diseases which lead to the
warrior's downfall.
Ilian is the Apostle of the Symmetry. She exploits the Dark
Symmetry to the utmost. Her minions are really only there as a
channel for the Symmetry to effect the rest of Humanity.
Muawijhe (no, I don't know how it's pronounced) is the Apostle
of Illusion. He exploits an opponents weaknesses to deliver a fast
death.
Finally, Semai is the Apostle of Spite. He fosters the
distrust between Humanity's forces and keeps them from realizing
who the true enemy is.
The Brotherhood
The Brotherhood is a semi-religious organization whose sole
purposes are to unite humanity against the Dark Legion and battle
the Legion wherever it rears its ugly head. Many of the members of
the Brotherhood have displayed wondrous powers which is called the
Art. These powers are akin to magic or psychic ability in that they
allow the Brotherhood casters to do things that no average warrior
could do.
The Corporations
The Corporations are all that is left of the old earth
civilization. Earth has been abandoned to the horrors that the
exploitation of its resources have created and the Corporations
have focused on exploiting the resources of the rest of the Solar
System. they include: Bauhaus, Capitol, Cybertronic, Imperial, and
Mishima.
Bauhaus is modeled after a society with a strong work ethic
and commitment to excellence. It has fairly advanced weaponry and
is the major financial leader.
Capitol is the fairly free-spirited, fame-oriented corporation
which sees glory being nearly as important as wealth. it has the
most well-developed military of the corporations.
Cybertronic is the upstart corporation. It is basing its
footholds on the advanced Cybernetics and weaponry that is Research
is coming up with. Its forces are comprised mainly of cyborgs of
one size or another.
Imperial is a clan-based corporation who emphasize familial
ties even in business dealings. It has had the most trouble trying
to stay internally united much less defended from the other
corporations. as a result, its military is fairly ferocious in its
tactics.
Mishima has its origins in the old-Asian corporate machines.
They hold honor at least as high as wealth, if not higher. Their
military is seen as more of a privilege than a necessity, and as a
result, they have fairly fanatical warriors.
Now that we have your attention, we will attempt to briefly explain how this basic story
is translated to the coolest CCG on Earth.
How the game is played
The game is generally the Mutant Chronilces in shuffle form.
It takes the Megacorporations, the Dark Legion, and the
Brotherhood and thrusts them into battle.
The game then breaks each Corporation down to the individual
warrior, his/her special abilities, equipment, and a ton of
other cards to help modify battlefield conditions.. This is
where you come in. It is you who decides how to manipulate the
warrior. With your own hidden agendas and internal policies,
you decide how to affiliate each warrior and how far you're
willing to risk their existence.
Since warriors make the game what it is, here is one example.
His name is Saladin and he's a Dark Legion fighter. The little
crossed-swords icon in the upper left determines that this card
is a warrior. The little Dark Legion icon in the upper right
shows his affiliation. The card also details what abilities or
limitations are set on this warrior. Lastly, and most
importantly in battle, are his combat values listed on the lower
left. The fist is his fight rating. The bullet is his
shooting ability. The shield is armor. And the diamond is the
warrior's value.
Each warrior is classified this way. Some have better
attributes than others and some are just plain cheesy.
However, there is hope. The warriors don't stand on their
own. Every other card in the deck is poised to help you and
your chosen Corporation's combatant reach success.
Now, follow the established protocols for turn taking and
combat. This is the game. Attacking your opponents and
winning combats is the way you earn points. The first
participant to reach the preset number of points, or, dissolve
his/her draw pile wins.
Keep in mind, this is a huge simplification of the game.
There are endless card combinations, strategies, and plenty
of rules to enhance every combat scenario. To learn more,
