SINGLE PLAYER

The player models are some of the best I've ever seen. Red Storm created surprisingly realistic models that are complemented by superb character animations. The only problem worth noting is that the player can't move while kneeling. The hostages and terrorists weren't quite as convincing as the player models but are still fairly well crafted.

The levels are very realistic and detailed. The level designers and texture artists did a great job of working together to create accurate representations of real-world environments. Every mission poses a unique challenge to the player, several of which focus on using stealth rather than firepower to complete the objective.

The weapons are all based on real weapons used by actual special forces teams. The player is equipped with a primary weapon (MP5, MP5SD, MP5K, Tactical 12-gauge shotgun, CAR-15, and M-16), backup weapon (9mm, 9mm suppressed, .40, .40 suppressed, .45, and .45 suppressed), and two slots for items such as flashbangs, frag grenades, and several other accessories.

The music and sound fx are also above par. The voices of team members are clear and intelligible. Weapon and environment sounds are also exceptional.

Multiplayer

Rainbow six multiplayer is an enjoyable experience, although I don't believe it to be better than that of QuakeII. It offers a slower style of play where, as in single player, one shot kills.

The game focuses on stealth and cunning rather than speed and the strength of the weapon in hand as in most other FPS's. Which in my opinion is a welcome change and I consider it to be yet another of the many unique attributes of Rainbow six.

Conclusion

Rainbow six provides a much needed change of pace to the FPS genre by adding a tactical aspect surpassing all previous attempts at creating a realistic special forces simulation. They even threw in an actual story line that was carefully planned and skillfully implemented.

I recommend Rainbow six to anyone that loves a good first person shooter and is looking for something to hold them over till Quake3 Arena is released. Red Storm produced a quality game and as an added bonus.... they tossed in a couple gibs for your enjoyment. Æ
