Izzy is the groups computer geek, or whiz, depending on your point-of-view. His favorite pastime? You guessed it, fiddling with his laptop. Izzy is highly intelligent and loves challenges and puzzles. For those reasons, you'll often hear himself asking questions and trying to solve them. Izzy's also quite imaginative; he seems to have a theory about just about everything. At the beginning of the series, he blamed everything on aliens however, this hobby (obsession?) has backfired many times. Izzy is usually quite anti-social and chooses to work with his computer rather than real people. This trait is shown in the episode "A Clue from the Digi-Past" Mimi starts crying because she's frustrated and thinks Izzy is ignoring her. Tentomon then asks Izzy to make her stop crying. Izzy replies "But my laptop can't do everything!"

Once Izzy gets started on a puzzle he'll never quit until some emergency comes up, and even then there's a good chance he'll still be working on an answer. Being a deep thinker, Izzy really gets wrapped up in his work. Izzy is so preoccupied with his thoughts that he doesn't realize the urgency and danger surrounding him. His computer antics and curiosity have payed off though. Izzy discovered that data in the Digi-World is a living, viable substance. From this, he unlocked the secret to Tentomon's digivolving. Izzy also observed that the Digivices were actually able to fight or fend off evil. Not to mention, Izzy also found out that they were actually in an alternate world and they, in the Digi-World, are just computer data. Finally, and most importantly he found out how to open the Gateway to Earth (with Tai's help) Later, Izzy also found out WHY the kids were selected as the Digi-Destined.

Despite the fact that his quest for knowledge usually separates him from the rest of the gang, Izzy really is a good kid. When the time calls for it, he won't let you down. Also in an episode "A Clue from the Digi-Past," Izzy comes to Mimi's rescue and tried to protect her when the Black Gear possessed Centaurumon attacked. Unlike the other characters, Izzy harbors a deep, dark secret. Although it was not actually stated at first we were led to believe that Izzy might have been adopted. In "The Eight Digivice" we find out that he is. This might be the reason why Izzy feels so motivated to find out answers to puzzles. He may believe that his identity is a puzzle. In the same episode, we also meet Izzy's adopted parents. From them we learn that Izzy is a real gentleman and they all really care for each other. Izzy's relationship with his Digimon was decent at the beginning, yet in "No Questions, Please" you see their bond really strengthened. Either way, they don't always see eye to eye. They don't argue or pick fights with one another, but Tentomon will always try to lure Izzy away from his problem-solving and his computer. They just don't share the same interests, that may be the main barrier in their friendship. Yet it is also a barrier easily overcome. Tentomon really admires Izzy's curiosity and quest for knowledge. The two really do care about each other, as shown in Episode 24.

In "Propecy," Izzy's adopted parents finally tell Izzy that he is their adopted son, something Izzy knew since he was a child (refer to Episode 5). They tell him that his true father was a brilliant mathemetician and a professor at a University. They also tell him that he and his wife died in a horrible car crash shortly after they had lost their first child. Izzy gets all teary and tells them that he knew all along but tried to pretend nothing was different, but he was slowly drifting away from them. Their finally telling him brought them all back together again. Also in "Prophecy," Izzy is instrumental in figuring out Gennai's prophecy regarding the Angels of Hope and Light. Upon their return to the Digi-World, Izzy still remains the group's resident genius helping them in many of the episodes. Izzy is instrumental in "My Sister's Keeper," when he uses his computer to find a cure for Kari's illness. Izzy also feels very guilty in the episode after he realizes that Machinedramon is tracking their position every time Izzy logs onto the Net. Later, in "The Crest of Light," Tai gets so frustrated at Kari's illness and by her separation that he gets into a fist-fight with Izzy. In "Joe's Battle" Izzy stays with Tai to fight against Piedmon when Sora and TK get sent to look for Matt, Sora, and Joe.
