Tonight on Monster Vision...
TNT's Monstervision will show The Serpent and The Rainbow, a very good horror flick involving
a powerful drug in Haiti that turns people into zombies (not like the brain-eating B-movie style corpses, but more of a clinical fashion) compels a Harvard anthropologist (Bill Pullman) to visit the Caribbean island and conduct further research with the assistance of psychiatrist Cathy Tyson. Based on Wade Davis' non-fiction account of the voodoo netherworld in Haiti, this Wes "Scream" Craven thriller tosses in plenty of nightmare-inducing surprises.  It comes on tonight at 12:45 am Eastern\Pacific Time (technically Sunday Morning).

Revised version of Uplink Lite.
Content-wise, there really is no changes to the new mod released over a week ago other than the files have been moved to .pak format and a small bug fix with a .html page that wasn't opening correctly after you complete the mod.  It replaces the new uplink lite on the files page.  Thanks again goes to Spooky (and his recently revised webpage).

The Phantom Menace (part 2).
I know this'll sound obsessive, but in the same day I've seen The Phantom Menace twice.   I just got back from it.  A friend had 2 spare tickets from people who couldn't come, and he offered it to me.  I said what the heck-- I still want to see it again.  Chances are, I'll probably see it again in this week, because I have a friend who has a birthday upcoming.  Also, check out the jokes page for a Star Wars infograph parody on the Phantom Menace.

The Phantom Menace.
I saw the first public showing at the local Des Peres theatre at 12:01 am (just got back home after discussing it for an hour with the guy I saw it with, Chris Lairmore).   It's good.  Not great, but still worth the money. How much you like it is partially depending on your degree of fandom.  If you expect it to be the best film in the series, or the best film period, most likely you'll be dissapointed.  That's hype and the media for you.  Still, it is the best film I've seen in a long time.   I'd explain more but I'm tired and need sleep. Oh, and I got in, just barely, without advance tickets.  We originally got crappy seats, but apparently people didn't show up for whatever reason in the best seats in the house and we just took those.   =}

Blah Blah Blah, yakkity smack...oh, Quake III, sinus infections, and TPM.
Well, I know every fps gamer and their mother have known about it, but the Windows 95\98 Quake III Internet Test went public.  Download it here.  Sorry for the lack of updates, I've got a bitchin' sinus infection.  My head feels like a bruise and I can't breathe...!  For the first time in my life, I'm leaving the United States, by going to Jamaica for three days for my sister's wedding.  I'm leaving in a day.   Note now, that this isn't good, as my mom is coming too.  She's doing everything in her power to get me to cut my hair for the wedding, and that's not to be taken lightly if you know my mom. "Guy's aren't supposed to have long hair," as she's told me.  I don't think I'll break--I've held up for 2 months already.  =}
Tomorrow I'm probably going to skip a few classes to get the advance tickets for The Phantom Menace.  It's for a good cause, folks.

New Version of Uplink Lite in the future.
A new, shinier, and easier to use Uplink Lite is being worked on here by a pilgrim of the name of Spooky.  The latest version of Half-Life (1.009 as of this typing)
, brought a user-friendly interface for Half-Life modifications.  The reason why I didn't do this when I first made Uplink Lite was because this tool wasn't available to Half-life at the time.  If you want to find out what Uplink Lite is, go to the files page.

Unreal Version 2.24v-- the end of the world is nigh!
After months of saying "it's almost here," it's here.  The main basis of the patch for this game (released April of last year, I believe) was to fix the internet multiplayer of the game, which was horribly laggy and unplayable, according to some, even on a super-fast T1 connection.  Amazingly, like the patch that came out 4 months before this, this patch is still beta (not the official final release)-- which further supports many people's thoughts that, like Quake II, Unreal was rushed to the market.

Bigger than usual update.
Quit that one-handed web-browsing *wink wink*, because I've got a bigger than usual update for you, to make up for the days lost.

This week on Monstervision...
Well, first we'll talk about last week's one, which completely sucked, which is why I never bothered posting it-- 'nuff said  =}  Now this weeks is a personal fav of mine:  Return of the Living Dead, a film both funny and scary ala Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness.  Again, Monstervision is on the TNT channel, Saturdays, 9:40 Central US Time.

Mayday!  Mayday!
An update on the situation with my involvement with this TC (total conversion) for the PC game Half-Life, called Mayday.  I'm now the head sound engineer, working with other members of the sound team to create dialogue for the in-game storyline.   My lack of updates the last 3 day's at the dwelling has been devoted to this project.

Star Wars Prequel Song: Duel of The Fates!
Hoo!  Here's a nice one for you people you have .mp3 players like Winamp (which plays cd-quality music that can be downloaded, for people not in the know).  The Phantom Menace is supposed to have 90% new music, with the remaining 10% of the music score reminiscent to the old films.   The movie trailers for TPM do not have the new music: they use scores from the old films, apparently because John Williams hadn't finished it at the time of the trailer's release.  Lucasfilm has already had the mp3, titled '
Duel of the Fates', pulled from countingdown.com, but as of this typing the file is still available here courtesy of TPM UK.

The "Macintosh Q3A Test working for Windows" rumor is false.
Well, as expected, the public release of the test version of the game Quake III was released, for Mac's only.  Linux and Windows OS ports are expected later, although they did release a Win32 release-- but it's for people wanting to host Macintosh games on a dedicated server.  Meaning, you can't play it yourself (for people not familiar with client\server stuff). There's been rumors flying around on lots of pages that the Macintosh emulator for PC's called Executor can run the game.  The Executor team looked into this, and discovered that it does not.  The reason being is that Q3 requires the PowerPC compatible Mac, which Executor does not emulate.

Half-Life Mayday TC And Quake III.
I auditioned for a Half-Life Total Conversion that required some recorded lines of a character off of the game.  Apparently they must've liked it-- I'm in!  Saucy!  Anyhow, here's their homepage, if you're at all interested.  They still need some
programmers, model makers, and level makers, so give it a try if you qualify.  In other news, it looks as if the release of the Quake III Arena Internet Test Version is close to imminent release (saw this on bluesnews), with the mac version being released first, then a Windows port.  I just wanna fire 'er up and get a direct cable connection going on with some Q3 deathmatch.  =}

Aliens Versus Predator Movie Trailer!
I had heard rumors of this movie years ago, but I never gave it much merit since it was put in the backburner so long (like the long fabled Doom, Duke Nukem, Freddy Versus Jason, etc.)  I guess Fox is trying to coincide the release of the game AvP (I recently downloaded the demo, see below at April 14th) with the movie.  They have the movie trailer available for download at the official site.

Oh god.  This was actually funny.  There's a site that I found that can take any page off the internet and dialectize it.  All you have to do is put the url of the site in the blank provided.  Wanna see my site in Redneck dialect? Go for it, it's pretty damn funny!

Oy!
A great interview in Time magazine with Star Wars creator George Lucas.  It deals with Darth Vader and a more in-depth look at how Anakin becomes him (note: no plot spoilers), as well as the religious and personal aspects of Star Wars.  A must-read.

Pretty quiet...
Quiet day, at least it is for me. Wasn't much I could scoop up, but I did manage to do some finishing touches on my title banner at the top (my two gargoylesque figures at the top). Can you tell?  =}  I did read a short article over at The Phantom Menace UK Headlines, which talks about how odd it is that
that there are people under canvas outside theaters in the US (see live-cam news post I made below) while there are others huddled in shelters and refugee camps in Yugoslavia.

TNT Monster Vision
I love TNT's Monster Vision, which comes on every Saturday night on, you guessed it, TNT.  Even if the movie sucks, J.B. Brigg's humor, satire, and critique of a film makes it (more) worth to watch.  This week's movie is The Road Warrior (Mad Max II).  I know, I know.  We're all tired of those
"post-apocalyptic wastelands devoid of social order, swarming with super-charged cars and people whose fashion sense derived from Judas Priest album covers" type movies.  Especially after Waterworld (shudder).  But this is the *original*, whence all other clone movies of it's type were influenced and ripped off of.  It comes on Saturday, April 17 at 10:00 pm ET/PT.

Live-Cam of People Waiting for Star Wars
Countdown.com has a live web camera for people waiting in line the remaining month until the release of Star Wars at the Mann Theatre.  It also has a counter that has the days, hours, minutes, and seconds until the release of The Phantom Menace. (33 more days, 33 more days!!)

The many faces of R2-D2.
Here's a cool read over at starwars.com.  The article describes the creation and evolution of R2-D2 from Star Wars (whom will be in the new film as well.)  Take a look at the production sketches, and be sure to click on the numbered links at the bottom of the page to continue the three part article.

            pi=3.14159265...
That's right, pi, the mathematical equation, but I'm referring to the movie (besides, I have really bad math).  After months of hearing how good this independent film is from Chris Lairmore, whom may even bigger into movies than I am, I sat down and watched it.  The film won some big awards at the indie film festival last year, and I don't blame them because it was really well done.

          The Voice of the Dark Side.
Ah, James Earl Jones.  The guy who killed Conan's parents in the movie "Conan the Barbarian".  The ex-hippie in Field of Dreams.  The voice of Simba's father on The Lion King...and the voice of Darth Vader.  Yep, the voice of the man in the mask who was once known as Anakin Skywalker.  While David Prowse was in the suit, it was Jones' deep cold voice that always filled you with dread.  In the first film in '77, Prowse was not aware that he would be dubbed over by Jones, and was pretty ticked off that he put so much effort into his lines only to discover they wouldn't be heard, but he still returned for both sequels.  Now, to the present: have you seen the second TPM trailer yet?  Well, I find out that Ray Parks, the guy who plays Darth Maul, is being voiced over by British voice-actor Peter Serafinowicz, whom I'm not familiar with, but...

"At last we will reveal ourselves to the jedi..."
Really such a simple phrase, but put into Serafinowicz's voice it's pretty damn cool. =}

            Matrix sequel(s)?
An interesting read for people who liked the Matrix and are hungry for more in this article from Entertainment Weekly:

    "Good news for all who want more of ''The Matrix,'' whose $37.4 million opening was the biggest April debut ever: Writer-directors directors Andy and Larry Wachowski have completed a sequel. Sort of. The brothers have finished a follow-up story, but only as a comic book. The work, illustrated by Geoff Darrow (who drew ''The Matrix's storyboards), will soon be available for free at the film's website.
    It could be the last thing the Wachowskis do for free. Predictably, the brothers are being bombarded with offers. And not surprisingly, Warner Bros. is hungry for a sequel-- understandable, since the Wachowskis have said ''Matrix'' is the first of a trilogy. ''From the start, they intended to create a whole universe,'' says the brothers' manager, Lawrence Mattis. But he adds that right now, the filmmakers are ''Matrix''-ed out; they're recovering from the arduous five-year production. Says Mattis: ''My guess is (a sequel) won't be their next movie.''

          The article goes on about their new movie that is based on a comic-book by a favorite writer of mine, Alan Moore, called V FOR VENDETTA.

            The Matrix and Star Wars.
Saw the Matrix a second time today, not so much because I wanted to see it again, but because some friends wanted to go out and see it, and my cousin Kevin, whom is visiting my place was anxious to see it again.  Good movie nonetheless-- a small, chewy on the inside, crispy on the outside appetizer for The Phantom Menace which is coming out in a little over 35 days.  I had the best thing to happen to me in a long time when this guy I know said there was a possibility that I could see the new Star Wars prequel before it's world-wide release May 19th.  He has a friend who works in the theatres, and employees are able to see private screenings before a movie's release because the actual film roll gets to them several days earlier than the release date.  It's not guaranteed, but he says there's a chance.  Oh sweet-maroon, I hope it pulls through...!!!

News Page Up!
Here she is, the first (public) news post.  It would've been here an hour earlier but I did a major screwup and over-wrote some pages I made on my hard-drive.  Anyhow, expect to see gaming news, mainly focusing on first person shooters and 3d-gaming, but I'll make occasional exceptions and broaden my views.  I will also have posts on movies.
