Date Released: Sping 1998

The Story : During the Cold War, an extremely useful and unknown material known as "bio-metal" falls to earth and scientists discover it can be used for devastating weapons of war.  Soviet and American armies are secretly sent into space to gather more.  Along the way, the aliens that created this bio-metal return to the solar system and are none too pleased with the Americans and Soviets.  They are then forced to work together against the common enemy.  Pretty far-fetched, yes, but it makes for a great game.

Review: 9/10.  This is the first strategy/action game ever and it is very nicely done.  The missions are excellent and the multiplayer kicks some serious rear end.  The friendly AI is sometimes frustrating as scavengers often times sacrifice their lives to accumulate scrap.

Internet Play:  Players can either compete over Heat.Net or can play on Activision's server for absoloutely no cost.  There is always plenty of players on, so you should have no trouble finding a game.  There is strategy games (with Recycler and units) and DeathMatch (only you) to select from plus some sniper maps.  Clans and Guilds also exist on the net for BattleZone.  If you are just starting up Battle Zone on the Internet, make sure you get the associated patches at  activision.com.
