Creator: Blizzard
Release Date: Late 1996
System: PC and Playstation

The Story: Everyone's favorite 30-foot tall evil demon is awakened
from his tomb to destroy the world. You, an average adventurer, is
about the only actual hope of stopping him before he gains all of his power
back. The story also hints at Diablo's 2 older brothers who are off
in another dimension wreaking havoc. I smell sequel.
Review: 7/10. It's entertaining, but gets monotonous very
quickly. Like other Blizzard games (minus Starcraft) it is plagued
by cheats, hacks, and other lowly sins. The RPG atmosphere is really
compressed by the whole whopping 3 character classes also. Hopefully
its sequel will fix these problems.
Multiplayer: Blizzard's battle.net is a free and a very reliable
gaming server. Constant upgrades are made to it and come out at
blizzard.com . Battle.net usually
has 1000 or so Diablo players logged on at a single time.
Now for the bad news about battle.net. * Nearly 50% of players
are PKs (player killers). On top of that, about 70% use hacks and
cheats of some sort (most of which are PKs anyways). For newbies,
it isn't even a goal anymore to gain levels and assualt Diablo, but to
avoid getting PKed. All of these problems obliterate the potentially
great RPGing atmosphere set up by Blizzard, hence its rating of 7.
Multiplayer Diablo is not an RPG, it is simply a contest to find out who
has found the best cheats over the net. Still, if you can round op
4 legit cooperative players, the game can be very enjoyable...
