THE GAME
Suddenly, headlights swept the rear of the Suburban and blue lights twirled to life as a patrol car lept from its hiding place behind an outcropping of rock.
"Wake up!" growled the smoking man, slapping the passenger, "Cops."
The ugly man scrambled into the back of the truck and crouched down behind an object he had covered with a blanket earlier in the day. He remained motionless, nervously watching the cruiser close with the Chevy. When the cruiser was only five car lengths away, he flipped the switch on the handle he held and flung the blanket aside. An electric whine filled the air of the Chevy, but it was quickly drowned out by the shattering glass of the back windows and the buzzsaw firing of the six-barreled minigun.
Sparks danced across the car as the bullets ripped through steel, glass, and flesh, and the patrolmen felt little pain as their lives came to an abrupt and certain end.
"Canít catch the Jackman!" the gunner taunted as the Suburban was swallowed by the night...
The subject, Jack David Manning, a.k.a. "Jackman" escaped on October 4th from the Fremont County Jail in Idaho where he was pending transfer to the state penitentiary for grand theft auto and assault with a deadly weapon. He escaped with the aid of a man who came to visit him. Normally, this case would not warrant an investigation by your team and would be handled by the US Marshalís office. However, Manning is not the center of your investigation, but the man who aided him is. He was captured on videotape at the jail, his signature has been verified, and several people with Bureau have positively identified him. His name is Alan Berston, and he was a Hostage Rescue Team agent for the FBI until he was killed two years ago. At least, we thought he was killed.
Your team will have to pick up Berston and Manningís trail in Grand Junction, Colorado where they ditched the Suburban. Both the Chevy and the Utah Highway Patrol car are being held there. Several law enforcement agencies are in on this case, and the Command Post is at the Sherrifís Office in Grand Junction. You will be on a chartered flight to Grand Junction, and can receive further information from the Denver Field Office if neccessary.
Undead or Vampires
Taken from "The Vampire book" by J. Gordon Melton (pxxiii)
"'Vampire' covers a wide variety of creatures."
Vampires sometimes emerge as intellegent life (possibly from outerspace or the genetic mutaion) or as otherwise normal human beings who have unusual habits or an odd powers (such as the ability to drain people emotionally). The characteristic shared by all of these is the need for blood (or death) which they take from living beings. "Thus it is not necessarily the blood the vampire seeks, but the psychic energy or 'life force'..." and " Vampirism can easily be extended to cover various relationships in which one party steals essential life elements from the other, such as ruler snaps the strength of the people they dominate."
FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATIONS
PERSONNEL FILE, PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION
-RETURN TO WORK-
APPROVED
NAME: RYAN, KENNEDY MARY
RANK: Special Agent GS13
SSN: ***-**-***
DOB: June 3, 1967
AGE: 28
PREPARED BY EVALUATING PSYCHIATRIST: Doctor Bruce Morton
EVALUATION:
This evaluation of Special Agent Ryan is in response to her request to return to work. Agent Ryan has been under my care for 2 weeks while hospitalized, as well as the week since her release. Agent Ryan was referred to my care after her hospitalization while investigating case XF#73310-S093095. During that investigation she was kidnapped by a suspect, mentally tortured and suffered numerous physical injuries as well. (see initial evaluation)
Physical injury of note, are large wounds that circle both her left and right wrists. Wounds were caused by her pulling at handcuffs. It is mentioned here that during most of our conversations Agent Ryan plays with the bandages around her wrists. Seemingly developing a nervous habit of pulling at her sleeves and covering them up. When brought to Agents Ryan attention she immediately stops.
Since our first meeting she has regained most of her memory of the kidnapping. Agent Ryan still states she is having trouble sleeping, but also maintains that problem was present before the incident. We have discussed at great length Post Traumatic Syndrome and the signs to watch for. We have also discussed the need for further follow up, regardless of readiness for work.
Agent Ryan seems to be handling the situation well. She is not reluctant to discuss the incident. Moreover, she seems to have found relief from much of her anxiety in professional relationships. She appears to have several friends, within the FBI- specifically with in the X-files division. Therefore I believe that returning to work at this point should not only be granted but encouraged.
Bruce Morton, M.D.
