Due to past has several special skills...some of which include..explosive expertise, stealth, martial arts as well proficiency with all known weapons and vehicles. He was educated as a microbiologist and thus has an uncanny eye for bacterial evidence as well as blood evidence. He is extremely skilled in areas of disease analysis and viral prevention.
Born in Langley, Virginia, At the tender age of 11 Sam was beginning to be primed for his future....As his father before him and his fathers father life in intelligence was prolific through the Viperstones. A graduate of the highly elite National Intelligence Academy in Ft. Lauderdale Fl by 20. He also attended three four week special forces training seminars with the US Marines. He had his Ph.D. in microbiology at 22 from U of Virginia. While working on his Ph.D., he was also working towards his destiny...Intelligence, eventually a Directorship.
Very Successful, he was named to the CIA's elite Epsilon squadron by the time he was 24. Records show that in that time he had received 4 Intelligence Commendation Medals and One highly coveted Distinguished Intelligence Cross. But he began to have doubts as an agent...the intelligence life was difficult, often Sam wondered if he was truly helping his country at all. Sam wanted to use his abilities to enforce law, not assassinate. He was discharged at age 27 for reasons not given from the CIA, pondering his future, he was approached by an FBI assistant director . A very brief stint at Quantico ensued to familiarize him with FBI protocol and a year later he was an FBI agent.
History Leading to OPI assignment:
While working a few years ago, Sam was approached by FBI special agent Kennedy Ryan in regards to an apparent viral death. Sam, upon further analysis determined that the mortality was caused by a virus not known to man...and it seemed to exhibit extremely bizarre biochemistry. Becoming fascinated with this he was recently reassigned to OPI division because of his vast microbial knowledge and a special request by Agent Ryan.
People important to Sam:
Sam is not on speaking terms with any of his family except a younger brother Daryl, who he cares about greatly. However his parents are extremely high ranking members of the intelligence community. His mother is none other than Nora Slatkin, The Executive Director of the CIA. His Father is William Viperstone, Former CIA Deputy Director and now a member of an international intelligence consortium.
Interaction with other OPI agents:
Sam has been recently assigned to the OPI dept. and does not know many of the agents very well..Although he seems to have a rapport with Agent Stillwater. He also got along quite well with Agent ________ because of their common medical knowledge.
Sam, for all of his skill, has acquired a fair number of enemies due to his controversial departure of the CIA. Sam dresses very well, in Armani suits and wears expensive watches. He can use any weapon and is known to carry not one but two handguns when on assignment. He occasionally brings even more weapons with him, situation or more often his mood permitting. An imposing man by any means he turns heads in a crowd He could be considered well off, having received trust funds and CIA bonuses when younger and having invested them wisely. While he no longer has access to his families vast financial resources ( which include a 50 acre generational home in Virginia valued at 18 million dollars). He does do well with his FBI salary complementing a net worth of about 1 million dollars. He has a very tasteful condominium in DC, as well as a Small home in Washington State. His car of choice is a 1995 Nissan 300 ZX and the car is midnight black.
Further Background:
Sam loves to Scuba dive, it was one of the activities he undertook in the academy that he truly enjoyed. He continued diving and dives in his spare time. His home in Washington state serves as his "Scuba headquarters" and he has a large collection of gear their. He collects diving knives and has over 35 of them. Sam also enjoys weightlifting, he has built his body to a powerful 235pds that can bench press nearly 300 pds. Skiing is another passion he has and his home in Washington state also serves as a Ski retreat , he keeps ski's and equipment there. An avid Practicing Martial artist Sam can often be found shadow boxing in his office, Asides from the basic special forces training he has continued on in the Martial arts and holds blackbelts in Karate, Jujitsu and Akido, he has been known to compete in the odd tournament time permitting.
Music:
Sam will listen to good rock and classical, about the only music he dislikes is Country and enjoys the occasional night out with the boys.
Other:
Sam greets every morning with a difficult calisthenics routine. His drink of choice is root beer. He would rather drink a root beer than a coffee or even a real beer. He enjoys good meals out and is a regular customer at a near by pasta establishment.
Personality:
A hard case by any means, he's intelligent and loves to be right, while he hates to be wrong. He can have some difficulty accepting orders, especially from those he has little respect for or feels he's more capable than. He is troubled by his past and has buried himself in the FBI. He is loyal and can be obsessively hard working at times. And he is extremely cool. It takes a great deal to rattle Sam and even under the greatest duress or the most gruesome scene, he maintains a hard almost detached look, probably due to years of intelligence training. Inherently a loner, one of his greatest challenges has been learning to work with a team.
