RE: New assignment

In 1987, the federal government deposited 20 scientists on a remote Pacific island for unspecified "research." Originally scheduled for a two-year two of duty, the government suddenly shut down the facility after six months, and then evacuated the personnel. The labs were scheduled for destruction, but due to bureaucratic red tape, the orders were lost in the shuffle.
Recently, a distress call was received from the island, still under quarantine.
Our assignment: We have 48-hours to retrieve the facility's database and determine what happened and who sent the message. If we are not at the scheduled rendezvous, the military will complete its orders and destroy the island.
Meet me at Andrews AFB for an immediate MAC flight. Dress appropriately for active field exploration.

Relevant Reserch:

Scylla- (sil'e)
1. Modern, Scilla, a rock in the straight of Messina. 2. Class Myth. a Sea nymph who was transformed into a sea monster: Later identified with the rock of Scylla. Cf. Charydbdis (def2) 3. between Scylla and Charydbis, between two equally perilous alternatives, neiother can be passed without encountering and probably falling victim to the other.

Findings

(actual case reports from the Agents who investigated):

Official Report:

SAC - Abigail Beck
SA's - Susan Bannion, Lynn Cailin, Boomer Jax, Victor Maxiss, Jacob Stillwater
Special Consultant - Anna Alexia Roytka
Back-up SA - Samuel Viperstone
Reporting to Andrew AFB, the field agents proceeded by boat to investigate LV-426, (otherwise known as Scylla's Nest).
Once arrived, power was restored to main operations building, and collection of research data, and downloading of all relevant data from main database was achieved. Further investigation made it clear that the distress call was evidently a mistake, caused by a power surge by recent storms presumably, and that the island was inhabited by one Dr. Dieter, and unhospitable local fauna.

Communications were restored, despite inclement weather and other hostile conditions {see incident report}, but attempts to halt early demolition of island by military strikeforce were unsuccessful.

Dr Dieter was unwilling to offer assistance, or answers, to queries from field agents. Further investigation, and questioning yielded the following information.

Dieter, a scientist of german descent, was granted leave by our government to perform genetic experiments upon the local fauna for the past 50 years approximately. His experiments, dedicated towards 'perfecting the human race', apparently involved boosting the intelligence and creativity of test fauna, (aggressive, carnivorous reptilian creatures native to the island). Documents retrieved does indicate evidence of both claims of govt. involvement and the success of these experimentations. The unfortunate loss of all hard disk (DGT) downloading of research database during subsequent events, render all attempts at duplicating these experiments impossible, as all other research and evidende were destroyed with the island complex.

The near loss of all field agents due to early arrival of military force was suggested to be the result of clerical error by military authorities.

Report compliled by Special Agent Jacob Stillwater

Incident Report:

One boat transport was destroyed by local fauna.(see attached receipt for Bureau reimbursement).
SAC Abigail Beck was injured, and poisoned, when attacked by lizard creature. Prompt attention and resourcefulness of agents made her survival possible. Dr. Dieter was savagely mauled by his own experiments, despite attempts at rescue by agents on hand.
Arrival and assistance of SA Viperstone via helicopter allowed the timely evacuation of all personel from island.,br> Predestruction of facility was suggested to be the result of faulty generator by SA Maxiss. Due to the state of facilities on island, and lack of any other contrary evidence, supports this claim.
Loss of essential mission data by SA Stillwater allowed only a partial success of the mission. The extreme nature of the circumstances surrounding this loss absolves him of any disciplinary action.

Case Marked As Solved:

The eyewitness accounts of agents in the field, as well as retrieved documents, verify the intellignece and hostility of the results of these genetic manipulations. Military destruction of island was apparently an attempt to prevent the spread of these creatures to the mainland.
