hand from removal of a wart at age 17; 1.4 centimeter scar on right forearm

on the bad side of"
Mannerisms: Stares at ceiling when deep in thought
Nature: Highly logical, stiff & reserved in first encounters

as a basis for decisions.
Demeanor: Cool, logical, introverted, driven by need for hard

Keeps her temper under control most of the time, but certain situations
will cause her to explode. As a rule, such outbursts only occur while
waiting for a new assignment.
Perception: Predominantly uses logical thinking and deduction
over impressions, but relies on gut instinct in crisis situations
Wit: Serious, subtle (and occasionally sarcastic) sense of humor.
Occasionally, Agent Tyler will play practical jokes on unsuspecting colleagues;
this behavior is generally preceded by a sudden change of demeanor to fun-loving
and extroverted. Becomes cold and sarcastic when she feels she is under
attack--see Mental Characteristics, below.
Common Sense: Predominantly book smart, some street smarts,
"uses her head"
Habits: Drives fast, always eats one bowl of cereal - usually
raisin bran or Cheerios - and drinks one glass of orange juice in the morning.
Mental Characteristics: When asked a question, Agent Tyler will
always supply one immediate, instinctual answer, then one logical answer
a few moments afterward. When confronted or angered, she becomes cold,
calculating, and ruthless, and the angrier she gets the colder she gets,
ranging from chilly to outright frigid. This behavior has led her colleagues
to give her the nickname "Fire on Ice."
Moral Characteristics: Adheres to Judeo-Christian morals; however,
Agent Tyler is pro-choice and is not above using cheat codes to beat a
computer or video game.
Beliefs: Lapsed Catholic, attends Mass every year at Easter
and Midnight Mass on Christmas.
Traditions: Attends one Stanley Cup playoff game each year and
watches the rest of the playoffs; is a die-hard Red Wings fan.
Virtues: Honest, loyal, hardworking
Vices: Becomes angry easily, tends to become argumentative and
stubborn in confrontations
Character Profile
The only child of James and Catherine Tyler, Lauren Christine Tyler was
born in Royal Oak, Michigan at William Beaumont Hospital - Royal Oak. Her
father died when she was 18. Her mother recently died under suspicious
circumstances; see below. Her family moved to Clarkston, Michigan when
she was 5; she attended kindergarten and first grade at Clarkston Elementary.
She transferred to St. Hugo of the Hills School, a parochial school in
Bloomfield Hills, in 2nd grade and attended there through 8th grade. Her
parents divorced when she was 9 years old. Her father moved to Canton Township,
Michigan; she and her mother moved to Southfield, Michigan.
Following her parents' reconciliation in 1976, the family moved to Troy.
When her parents separated again 5 years later, she and her mother moved
to Bloomfield Hills. She attended high school at Detroit Country Day School,
a private nonparochial school, and graduated summa cum laude with
honors. Following a series of fainting spells, she was diagnosed that year
with chronic orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure aggravated by
posture); she is currently on medication (Proamatine, 200 mg x3/daily;
see Notes, below) to correct the problem. During high school, she worked
part-time at Waveform Technology, a local computer firm, as a systems analyst.
Lauren moved to Chicago, Illinois after graduating and attended college
and later medical school at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Her father died that year of lung cancer due to excessive prolonged cigarette
smoking; she has been a vocal opponent of the tobacco industry since. She
received her MD in 1991, but never went into practice; she returned to
college for a Bachelor's in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering
after completing a residency in emergency medicine. She moved to Baltimore
in 1995 and entered Quantico Academy that year. She graduated with honors
and was assigned to the Washington, D.C. Bureau, in the Violent Crimes
Unit. After her third case, the capture of serial killer Philip Carmody,
she requested a leave of absence and was subsequently transferred to the
X-Files Division in June of 1996. Following the shutdown of said division,
she spent a short time working with the UN's OMEGA Bureau before transferring
to the OPI in September of 1996.
In April of 1997, Lauren's mother was the victim of a brutal murder.
Lauren was called in on the investigation as a consultant. The suspect,
Brian Halleck, was shot and killed by Lauren in an attempt at apprehension.
Though State of Michigan adoption records show Halleck to be Lauren's half
brother by an unknown rapist, Lauren denies any connection with him. "He
killed my mother, and he was about to kill me, and that was all that mattered,"
she stated in a later interview.
In June of 1997, Agent Tyler was promoted to the rank of Senior Agent.
She now heads the OPI's new Baltimore Field Office, along with Senior Agents
Gates and Thanatos.
Agent Tyler is described by her fellow agents as retiring and introverted.
She is an amateur computer hacker, enjoys playing network competitive games
such as Descent and Doom 2 (though she has recently become
a Quake fanatic, thanks to Agent Robertson's influence), and has
an extensive, eclectic collection of music CDs, ranging from "Adagio to
AC/DC and everything else in between." She does not smoke, rarely (if ever)
drinks, and has never used drugs. She often works long hours, and has tied
the division record for "Longest Single Workweek." She is highly driven;
her personal motto is "Second place is first loser." She is an above average
shot with a handgun.
