Okay, newbie, toe the line... you want to be an agent? Or play one in our sim? GOOD! Wonderful! We'd love to have you... but this is SIM Quantico, and we have rules. Read over this flow chart to get an idea of what's going to be involved in your training... YOU WILL NOT - I repeat - YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO SIM WITHOUT FOLLOWING PROPER PROCEDURE!!!!
::ahem:: Sorry for shouting. It leads to Lesson 1 - the hosts of the Sim take this game VERY seriously. Players who decide to buck the system wind up labled as "mutants" and are NOT welcome here. They get kicked from the room as soon as they show their heads or, if part of the E-mail game, dropped from the list. Sound rough? Sound serious? It is... but this is a team sport. The channel #xfsim is NOT a chat room... it's a multi-player game. That requires rules, and cooperation, and if you're not willing to be a team player, you might as well sign off right now.

Still here?
GOOD! You've made the first cut. If you kept reading, it means that you've probably got the common sense to understand that EVERY game has rules, and players need to follow them. So... let's start with your training, broken down into 12 easy steps. Welcome to SIM Quantico, newbie. If you make it, you'll join one of the best-run sims or PBeM games on the Net. Read carefully, follow the rules, and you'll have earned the title "Basement Rat!"
1. The Home Pages
Before you start ANYTHING, you need to spend some quality time with the sim web pages. Read them over. Look through old newsletters, check out the current agent profiles (especially the hosts - you'll NEED to know them!), and browse the text. Although most pages talk specifically abou the IRC game, the information found on these pages is imortant to PBem gamers as well. Pay special attention to the sections on "Character Creation" and "Sim Netiquette." They're both incredibly important to your success as a player.
2. Getting Into Character
Once you've read the handbooks, you can start creating your own character and make first contact with the hosts. Our personnel department currently handles the first profiles, reading them over and distributing them to the other hosts. Here's how it works:
3. CONGRATULATIONS!
You made the cut! Your profile has been approved by the hosts, and you're on your way to becoming an active player. If you are accepted as an IRC player you'll be asked to observe two complete Sims to see how it's done. This is just sitting in on a game, watching and learning. You'll probably be assigned a mentor - one of the senior players who will answer any questions about what's going on. If you are accepted as an E-mail player you will be asked to watch at least two rounds of play ( unless it is a limited player plot line..in which case you may be able to play a NPC until the next case.)
Once you've observed your two complete sims or rounds, you'll be permitted to join the game. That's it! You're in! You're in! Hooray! :)
Good question. Once you've been accepted as a player,on the IRC you can volunteer your services to the sim... acting as greeter or "mutant patrol" (kindly warning off mutants who burst in on a game without having followed procedure) during a game, coming up with plot ideas, writing bits and pieces for the sim newsletter. If you've proven your worth as a mature, responsible player, you might even qualify as a Branch Host with your own sim night!
But wait, that sounds interesting? Read on...
The X Files sim is growing CONSTANTLY. It's clear that we can't hold effective games with 10 - 14 players at a shot; that would be CHAOS. So... here's the idea.
Let's say you've simmed a few games with the senior players. You've proved that you're no mutant... you take the game seriously, and you've shown that you're willing to work as part of a team. Let's also say that you've gotten to know a few of the other "newbie" characters, and you've gotten to be friends. You want your characters working together more often... so you apply to form a Branch Office.
The senior hosts have sole authority to authorize a Branch Office. This permits your group of friends to sign up for a time OUTSIDE of normal sim time to sim on your own. The person who applies will be considered "Branch Host," and will act as the link between the Branch and Main sims (see DUTIES OF BRANCH HOST) below. Branch Offices must hold to the rules of the main sim, but will have full control over storylines (the players might want to share plotting duty), and will be granted their own spot in the weekly newsletter.
Please note that becoming a member of a Branch Office is a great responsibility... the senior players WILL pop by from time to time to be sure that you're following the rules, and if your group isn't, you'll be issued one warning before your "Branch Office" is officially disbanded and wiped from the newsletter. Offending players will have their names posted as "Names to Ignore" and will be treated as mutants, and kicked from any sim they attempt to join.
