Undead is the army for the magic people out there. Undead has
some awesome magic, which can either make or break them. Undead have
some huge disadvantages though. First off, if the general dies, his
entire army goes "poof goodbye" and you win. In addition the basic
regiments for any Undead army can be rather pathetic. Undead relies
on psychology of terror, fear, ect, and their Necromantic magic.
Necromantic abilities kick some ass. You can first start off by
picking what spells you want, and during magic phases you can re-cast
spells, which is a huge bonus. Necromantic spells can instantly kill
models, raise whole new units of skeletons for free, and give units
another phase. A Necromancer with the proper spells and magic items
can rule the whole game. This makes the general out the be a big
target. Many people simply go after the general and if he dies, all
the Undead regiments die, which is Undeads first and foremost
disadvantage. The regiments are rather weak in most cases. All of
them have pathetic weapon skill and movement, Undead cannot march
move. The larger units, such as Wraiths or Mummies, have a lot of
wounds and more than 1 attack, but can still be easily killed.
Another good thing about Undead is that the entire army either causes
fear or terror. The main thing to keep in mind is, make the opponent
take every single psychology test, eventually he will fail one and
that is what makes your regiments actually useful. Undead also have
some nasty magic items and some killer special characters. One word:
Nagash.
Like I said, if you like magic to rule your game. Definately go
for Undead. They are wholely reliant upon their general and his
spell casting abilities. Undead is certainly fun to play, but can be
frustrating when you general gets taken out by pure luck or just
kicks his ass kicked in the first turn.
