AIL Realmers. Welcome to the Quest.
The Quest is two years old this month. It was intended to show 1000 ads for The Realm as a sign of support for the game and the Team, and in the ensuing years it has quietly gone about its task. With the aid of some high and low traffic sites, we have been able to distribute on the Web almost a quarter of a million ad views for Realm. A great achievement.
The quest was conceived when things were at a rocky early stage, and the path for Realm has never been easy. But the community spirit does remain, even if members of the community come and go.
So the Quest continues. Some day it might be a tool for players to show support for The Realm when it really needs it, but let's hope the need never arises and that Realm continues to grow and prosper.
This "Quest of 1000 Views" is a project to do something positive to show that Realm users want to see The Realm continue. And that we are more than willing to help.
The crux of the quest is for Realmers to actively do something to promote The Realm. Two ideas are to place advertisements for The Realm on personal home pages, and to use schemes such as Link Exchange to generate advertisements.
(In fact we really don't need more people to join the Link Exchange part, but if people want to take a banner ad to use and would like to appear on this list as a supporter, then that is welcome.)
The Quests
- Link Exchange: By looking at this page, you have caused an advertisement for The Realm to appear somewhere on the Internet. The ad was the one appearing at the bottom of this page, "Download Adventure". The ad ran because this page also loaded the two ads below it for the Link Exchange program. The quest is for people with Realm-related pages, to include some HTML code on their pages which will do exactly the same thing, generate ads for The Realm when viewed. Their pages will then be listed here, where people can come and browse the "questing" sites. If we can get 10 sites and 100 people to view them, then we will have generated 1000 ads (or views in Link-Exchange talk) for The Realm. - Advertisements: Many people have links to The Realm on their home or character pages. While this is great, we might be able to do it a bit better. Realmers with an artistic bent are urged to turn their talents to creating nifty ads for The Realm. These, of course, would have to be then accepted by Sierra and they would be then be able to go onto the following page for people to download and use. Some artists have already taken up the challenge and we look forward to seeing the results of their work.
