GURPS Programs . . .

GURPS, though not a hard game to understand by any means, can still be tiring to make a character. Especially for a GM making dozens and dozens of NPC's. Luckily there are some great programs available on the 'Net to help facilitate character generation. There are two programs that are worth looking at. The first is MakeCharacter, which is an MS-DOS based program and the other is GURPS Character Assistant (GCA), a Windows based program.

GURPS Character Assistant Homepage * This is an absolutely wonderful page. clean, good layout, and tons of information on the program.
MakeCharacter * This page is poorly laid out and has many fragmented graphics on it, but its the only place I know of that has the most recent version of MakeCharacter. So be patient and give the program a chance. Just because the packaging may be awkward doesn't mean what's inside is junk.

GURPS Information Resources . . .

I used to get the old Roleplayer magazine before it became what is now known as Pyramid. There were alot of great articles in that venerable magazine, but some of them (most actually) had such a short print run they are almost impossible to find. Luckily S.J. Games has HTMLized them and put them on their site. Definitely take the time to look at these old articles.

Another great place to get ideas, bounce around rules questions and just have fun with GURPS is to subscribe to the GURPSnet mail list. It is frequented by some really knowledgable people, including Sean "Dr. Kromm" Punch, the system guru for GURPS. Who also happens to have a webpage called, Dr. Kromm's Home Page Now that I have rambled way off the subject, how do you subscribe to the mail list. Send e-mail to majordomo@io.com with "subscribe GURPSnet-L" in the body.

A great resource to take advantage of if you have ftp access, is to go to the GURPSnet FTP site. In this archive you will find GURPS conversions for TV shows, character write-ups, new rules, and a ton more. Of all the ftp archives I have seen containing GURPS materials, this is by far the best of them all. Easily having four and five times more content
