Although Teddy Bears are strong of heart they can still succumb to some very unusual bear diseases. Most Teddy Bears survive these health scares without complaints and tears. Below are listed some common health problems experienced by Teddy Bears!
"Soggy Ear" This complaint is very common among Teddy Bears who belong to young children. This recurring condition is caused by the child sleeping with a Teddy Bear's ear in their mouths. Treatment consists of removal of the bear from the owner, a warm soapy wash and left to recuperate in a quiet corner for several days. Most bears come through with only slight damage to the ears! "Huggilitis" Most Teddy Bears will experience this condition at some time in their lives. Common symptoms are a slight loss of fur around the tummy area and occasionally the Teddy Bear will take on a squashed look. Bears with this condition respond well to lots of gentle cuddles! "Less Furriious" Loss of fur on Teddy Bears can be attributed to two reasons - 1. Huggilitis and 2. Old Age. Neither of these conditions seem to cause distress to the bear, but old bears may find the colder weather a bit uncomfortable. This can be over come by the owner providing some warm covering such as a woollen blanket for him or her to cuddle into! "Stuffingous Fallingoutous" Stuffingous Fallingoutous can occurr for several different reasons. The loss of stuffing can be very degrading to bears, so it is wise to treat the disease as soon as possible. This can be fixed by suturing the fur together at the site of the wound. Much larger wounds may need to have a patch sutured over the wound and a day of bed rest to make sure that the patch will stop any stuffing from escaping! "Snuffelitis" Teddy Bears can live quite comfortablily with Snuffelitis. The total or part loss of the bear's nose may look unsightly, but bears can cope quite well as long as you are prepared to have a Teddy that snores when he or she sleeps. Cosmetic surgery can fix this problem if your Teddy Bear is embarrassed to go out in public or he is keeping you awake at night with his snoring. But please check that the surgeon is a registered Teddy Bear Doctor so that you are assured of the nose being fixed properly!
