I recently had the chance to play Bomberman Hero, the sequel to Bomberman
64. I liked the game so much I bought the game. Bomberman Hero is quite
different from Bomberman 64.
In Bomberman Hero, Bomberman is trying to save Princess Millian, from the
evil Garaden Empire (heard that one before. Princess Millian stole a Data
Disk from the Garaden Empire, and Nitros, a soldier in the Garaden army is
trying to get it back. When Princess Millian is captured, she gives the
Data Disk to her robot (Pibot) who hides on a shuttle heading for Planet
Bomber (Star Wars Anyone?). Pibot's shuttle crashes on Planet Bomber, and
Bomberman is sent to investigate. When Bomberman reaches the crash site he
is confronted by Nitros of the Garaden Empire. After they fight and
Bomberman wins he finds Pibot, who tells you the same story I just did.

There are a few notable differences in the game. The first and most
noticable difference is that Bomberman can jump and and hang off of edges.
Also there is no Battle Mode.
These things were never, or were always (in the case of Battle Mode) in
any of the games in the Bomberman series. Also there are no pumped
bombs, but you can throw up to four bombs at a time. Another difference is
that you cannot control where the camera is positioned. You won't really
notice this because the computer moves the camera angle to the best
poisition automatically.
There are the same number of worlds (except they're planets) in the game
(five regular worlds, and one special world). Each world is divided into
three areas and each area is divided into at least four seperate stages. In
total the game has over 70 levels and bonus levels after you defeat the end
bosses. Each world has an end boss (like Bomberman 64), and
almost every world has a mini boss (like Bomberman 64).
Bomberman Hero also has plenty of items for you to collect. Twenty-one in
all, including the Special Bombs (which are like the gold cards of Bomberman
64). Also instead of target times (in Bomberman 64) you have to get a
target score. You achieve this score by killing monsters and collecting all
of the items that are scattered through out the level. As in Bomberman 64
if you collect all the special bombs (gold cards in Bomberman 64) and beat
all the target scores (target times in Bomberman 64) you can play on a
special world. Below are a few of the items in the game.
The music in Bomberman Hero is kind of annoying. You'll either get used to
it (like I did) or turn the sound right off and complain about it (like one
of my friends did).
The controls are pretty easy to get used to. Except if you're used to
kicking bombs at enemies in Bomberman 64. It's a little hard to kick bombs
at enemies in this since you can't really tell when you set down a bomb
(there isn't any noise like in Bomberman 64). You'll probably throw bombs
as you're main attack since they explode on contact.
Well... I think I've told you enough about the game. If you want to know
more, you can either buy the game, or check out my Bomberman Hero Page which
will be up soon.
