Brazil: With the destruction of
the United States and the collapse of Europe, Brazil has become a major
world power with its own colonies in space. Brazil's rise to power
is partly due to its extensive research into biotechnology. The Amazon
rain forest makes an exellent place to conduct research and provides the
resources that many of the biotech companies around the world require.
The population in concentrated around five large
arcologies. The ruling class live inside the arcologies, while millions
of poor, destitute workers live in extensive slums outside these thriving
cities.
Being a global power heavily influenced by the
Norça has turned Brazil into something of an imperialist power.
It competes heavily with Colombia, has been making imperialist moves into
Venezuala, and the Guyanans have all suffered from Brazilian expansionism.
Colombia: In 2054, Colombia's rise
in power began. In that year, it siezed the nations of Ecuador and
Panama. Later, it legalized the drug trade and now collects enormous
amounts of revenue from the trade and taxation of drugs.
Colombia's bitter enemy is Brazil. The
two often wage secret skirmishes where ever their sphere's of influence
clash in Venezuala, the Guyanans, Peru, and Mexico. The drug cartels
from both countries wage war for dominance all over the globe. Where
once the Italian and Russian Mafias were strong, Brazilian and Colombian
cartels have, for the most part, replaced them.
Mapuche Nation: During the Aberrant War, Brazilian forces expelled most of the Aberrants from their country. After the expulsion, most of these Aberrants fled to other Sudamerican nations, notably Chile. The Chilean government was soon wrecked and one of the opressed native Araucanian tribes, the Mapuche, siezed power. After pushing out the Aberrants, the Mapuche went about creating an agressive anti-development agenda. They are often accused of supporting eco-terrorism, and have been engaged in numerous skirmishes with Argentina.
Bolivia: The success of the Mapuche revolution in Chile set off a domino effect through out South America. One nation that was affected was Bolivia. The native Quechua and Aymara tribes siezed the government, and like the Mapuche Nation, have created an anti-development agenda.
Peru: This nation is racked with
severe internal problems. After the coup in Bolivia, the Quechua
and Aymara populations began trying to sieze control of the country.
Only the capital city's (Lima) links to the outside world allowed Peru
to resist the conversion.
Refugees from numerous battered Sudamerican nations
have also added to the instability.
Venezuela:
"Once the founder of OPEC, this country has fallen
far. Aberrants fleeing Brazilian forces entered Venezuela early because
it was already struggling with internal division. In 2055, Aberrants released
dangerous germ warfare material into the populace. Colombian forces already
in invasion mode hastily retreated as the plague decimated the citizens
of Venezuela. Swiftly the entire country was cut off, shunned by the rest
of South America. Anyone trying to escape was shot by opposing border forces.
The Aberrants fell prey to their own weapon, and years later, Norca biokinetics
demonstrated that the disease was being transmitted by the infested El
Capybara rats in the jungles. Inoculations are now regularly sold by BioSystems
corporation and Norca has assisted the government in building underwater
cities off its coast. Caracas, the capital, is beginning to feel the benefits
of undersea wealth, particularly oil, but already rumors are spreading
like wildfire that the Colombians are building secret sealed bases inland
and that Brazilian forces have been seen on the move. “Let them have it,”
is the response of most of the populace who have turned their dreams to
the ocean, “they shall reap El Capybara for their sins.”"

Argentina: Once one of the most developed Sudamerican nations, Argentina has now become a haven for the sale of weapons and mercenaries, a very lucrative business in North and South America. This new culture however, has resulted in a very unstable country.
The Guayanas: Guayanans is a somewhat derogatory term used to describe the small nations of Sudmerica, all of them have suffered the depridations of more imperialist countries. Uruguay has been subsumed into Brazil, and Guyana has been suffering from the El Capybara plague from Venezuela. The other nations like Paruguay, Suriname, and Guiana have all suffered in one way or another and are often ruled by internal strife and petty dictators.
Central American Federation:
"Long ago unified by Spanish rule, and again
in the 20th century by economic trade organization, the nations of Costa
Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua banded together in
2055 in a bid to retain freedom from larger, more aggressive world powers.
The government has been centralized in Managua, and most world powers,
with the notable exceptions of Brazil and the FSA, recognize the Central
American Federation. The FSA claims that the CAF supports Mexican
freedom fighters, and Brazil is bound by treaty with Belize. Colombia
seems friendly to the CAF, though some believe that the violent separatist
movements that still exist in all five states are funded with illicit drug
money from the Colombian government. Others believe that these guerrilla
groups are supported by the CSA (Central Security Agency, the FSA's intelligence
organization) in order to keep the CAF from assisting Mexico."
Belize:
"Tiny beleaguered Belize owes its continued independence
from the CAF to its sweeping agreements with Brazil that allow the latter
to keep an extensive military presence based there on a full-time basis.
The Central Security Agency is certain that Brazilian mercenaries generally
use Belize as a staging ground before entering southern Mexico. Border
hostilities between Belize and their Guatemalan neighbors date from centuries
old rivalries."
Panama:
"Valuable in the extreme for its canal, Panama
was occupied in 2054 by Colombia during the same military actions that
expanded into Ecuador. As the years have passed Colombian control
has simply increased, and, remarkably, remained relatively peaceful.
Most Panamanians are happy to have the protection of Norca and the Colombian
military against the CAF, FSA and Brazilian imperialism. The state
also enjoys fantastic trade with the Caribbean underwater cities of Oceania."
Norça:
"The Norça biokinetics have always been
the most confusing of the psi orders to the public. They can take on the
very images of the tainted Aberrants and yet they are renowned for the
ability to assault the Aberrants. They speak incessantly of honor and yet
they spend their time engaged in subterfuges that sometimes reveal the
enemies of humanity and other times merely serve selfish greedy motives.
In South American conflicts involving Brazil and Colombia, the biokinetics
appear to be divided, and can be found on either side. It may be that they
are intentionally playing both sides against the middle, however. However,
if outsiders of any kind—other orders, aliens, Aberrants or other nations—interfere,
Norça always is there to fight for their people. It is their honor."
