Protoss Basic Strategy
The Story:
Although all races follow some similar basic
ideas in SC, each race has some things they're exceptionally good at. Therefore,
they each have a set of basic strategies that they need to follow
Some basic Protoss strategy templates:
Rushing works!:
Zealots rushes are amazingly powerful when
done correctly. They can defeat a zerg player trying to go up the tech
tree early, aviod that effective terran defense, and fight massive battles
with other zealots. The key to a sucessful rush is a good build
order. Scout with a zealot, find the enemy, and strike. An easy skill
to learn and master.
You don't always need gas:
Really, you don't. I see far too many protoss
players building their assimilator before their 2nd gateway. 100% of
the time, they will lose to your rushes. Why? Because their wasting
the minerals and probes on gas that they won't need for quite a while.
The protoss are unique in that they can have a very effective offensive
force (that remains effective for quite some time), can build dector towers
and gound defense all without any gas. If you plan to rush, don't worry
about the gas. Only when they hold back you rush (which means they were
doing the same thing as you) should you worry about building an assimilator.
I won my first 6 ladder games by using
zealots and cannons alone-- I never once had an assimilator. You don't
need it. Just look at the final stats of your games. Did you win? If so,
you most likely collected the most minerals. Did you lose? You most
likely collected the most gas (in short or medium length games).
