STORY
"Across the length and breadth of the kingdom the descendant of Erdrick followed the cold trail. Although he eventually rescued Princess Gwaelin, he knew that there was much more to be set right. He knew he must face the Dragonlord. But this new Dragon Warrior fared better than his ancestor. In a battle that became the subject of songs, the Dragonlord fell and his castle of Charlock was emptied of its evil host. The hero returned to Tantegel where the King offered his kingdom as a reward, but the Dragon Warrior refused, saying he would find a kingdom for himself elsewhere. With Gwaelin, the Dragon Warrior set out to explore the world and build a new home."*
The new home that the Dragon Warrior discovered he named Torland. Soon after this discovery, Princess Gwaelin gave birth to three children, granting them each a castle of their own once they were old enough to rule. Peace reigned.
100 Years Later....
The Princess of Moonbrooke sat in the courtyard of her castle having a quiet discussion of recent political affairs with her father, the King of Moonbrooke. Suddenly, a guard stumbled into the courtyard and breathlessly announced that the forces of Hargon the Sorcerer were advancing toward the castle. The king was shocked by the news. He prepared for battle and desperately took his daughter to hide in the castle cellar. He turned and found a grinning monster staring directly at him. Summoning all of his Magical Power from within, he cast a powerful spell, thus killing the fiend. However many more monsters followed this, and the mighty King of Moonbrooke fell. The princess screamed upon seeing her father slain through tear filled eyes. Within no time, the great Moonbrooke Castle had been sacked. Yet a single, wounded guard fled from the castle to warn the King of Midenhall of the grim news. He eventually made it to Midenhall in the north, and gasped the news to the king before he died. The King of Midenhall, though a descendant of Erdrick the Great, was becoming much too old to stop Hargon. He turned to his heir, the strong, young, Prince of Midenhall and appointed him the quest. Giving his son what little he could spare, the prince set forth to first find his cousins to assist him on his quest, the Prince of Cannock and the Princess of Moonbrooke. Together, the three companions grew experienced in magic and combat, and faced many trials, until at last they reached Hargon's castle high in the mountains of Rhone. They must fulfill their destiny as famed descendants of Erdrick the Great.
Following the first Dragon Warrior, you play the role of the Prince of Midenhall at the beginning of the game, and later control his companions as well.  A large improvement upon the previous Dragon Warrior, the party system is introduced as well as some improved graphics, travel doors, enemy groups, and the sailing ship. You will explore a land four times the size of the first game, and master 22 magic spells. It is safe to say that DWII set the format for the later DW's and is the most challenging of the NES Dragon Warrior's.
