Manannan mac Lir Custodian of the Seas

Manannan mac Lir is the God of the seas and is the custodian of knowledge of the oceans. Manannan mac Lir is actually to separate entities. Lir is the god of the oceans and the custodian of knowledge and Manannan is his son the traveller of the seas and oceans. Lir is a popular deity particularly among the Earlish peoples who are renowned for their affinity with the seas. Manannan is said to reside on an Island named after himself just north of Caragar where he watches the seas and it from here where he sometimes sails out on his boat riding the waves. The white crest of waves are called the Horses of Mananna and it is said that Lugh is unable to perceive them.
Roleplaying Notes
Lir rarely travels the seas himself anymore. He observes them through the eyes of his son Manannan who often travels them and watches over sailors who pay patronage to his father. He has great respect for those who have mastered the seas but little pity for those who fail and fall into the seas.

Special Att/Def: Manannan’s sword Retaliator has the ability to slay any fire based creature. He is able to call apon 100 HD of sea creatures. He is immune to water based attacks and can control sea creatures.

Duties of the Priesthood
Lir’s Priests reside at coastal locations and it is their duty to look after the seas and the creatures within them. The often take up the duties of blessing ships and boats for sailors. Most Priests of Lir are men. Though on occasion a woman has arose to be a priest.
