News Letter 1
 
 This is the first of hopefully many news letters that are designed to keep you the public up to date with the more noteworthy events of the known world and generally bring about a more plentiful news service with a great wealth of information. It is my fond hope that we succeed in doing this for not only can these news letters act as a source of information, but also as a source of history that can be looked upon by our descendants and learned from. We are in what is known as the Golden Age, a time predicted by seers as a time of heroes and villains. We have already seen many great things in this age such as the coming of the Knights and many heroes such as Sir Hagor Barrafield and villains such as Allister the Black. It is the hope, no duty of the Garaleyan Press to report on such peoples and the activities. Yet we know that there are many that cannot read and would not benefit from such news letters, how you may say would they benefit from them. I say this, more people are learning every day and although it is a long way off before the majority can read that day will come and until then perhaps those that can read can read out the news to those who cannot.

 The notable gang known as the Wraiths (due to their ability to get in and out of places and leave little trace) have struck again near Vordurn. They raided a merchants business and got away with most of his savings. Lead by the notable outlaws Ben Durn and Nessan Harvey this is the ninth time recently that they have managed such a profitable job and it almost certainly won’t be the last. Very little is known of their leaders past apart from the fact that the two had worked together small time before the forming of the Wraiths and have gotten quite a reputation for them selves. Ben Durn is a very charismatic man and the front man of the Wraiths. He not only is a competent rogue and fast speaker but also a good fighter. He is the brains behind all of the operations. Nessan Harvey is the quieter of the two. Originating from Irenayer he is an expert with all missile weapons and some say the greatest and fastest in all Erland. One thing the Wraiths can boast so far is that not one of their robberies whether publicly or stealthily executed has there been any deaths on either side and all those bystanders have spoke on the politeness of Ben Durn and gang. Although those who have tried to follow them afterwards have not found the same hospitality when violence was ensued.

Another group of outlaws have been making things difficult for Baron Mervin Bowers recently in the north-western side of Erland in Farrel Forest. Lead by the outlawed ranger Jacob they have enraged the Baron by stealing his taxes and generally making things difficult for merchants bringing supplies into the castle. Two of the founding members of the outlaws are known now to the Baron which are the above mentioned Jacob and a local bard called Rhudolf Keane. Other people have joined and there is said to be around twelfth in all. It is also said that Jacob kidnapped a local minor noble known a Brionn since she disappeared soon after Jacob had been outlawed but this is purely speculative. Since the outlaws started making their strikes the Baron has upped the security in the area bringing in many soldiers which have all so far failed to bring Jacob in. It is said that the outlaws would have completely ran circles around the soldiers by now and severely depleted the Barons forces were it not for one man, a certain Sir Steven of Shallowdale cousin to the Baron and a most competent warrior. It is he who has managed to stand in the way of the fearsome Jacob and bring order to the chaos that travelled through the Barons men. The Baron in an attempt to bring Jacob in has put a price of thirty five royals on his head, and fifteen royals on his men, though it is very unlikely that any of the locals will do so as he has become quite popular and is known as a local hero. Before all this happened the area was relatively quite and was one of the few in the country where magic was rare. How ether the Baron has recently brought in some mages to help with the problem so we could see the area coming up to the norm.

The hundredth annual Earlish Grand Tournament has taken place recently at the national hero Sir Hagor Barrafields estate. Many of the countries Knights took part in it and great glories were achieved. Here are the results of some of the events.
