There are two kinds of Warlock, one is the male version of the Witch
and the second is a Rune Warrior who uses the combination of Rune magic
and the power of his skill at arms. This details the second of the two.
The Warlock is an ancient Warrior Wizard who stores his magic within
stones bound in with runes carves into the stones surface.
They go back many centuries and were used in times of old on the battle
fields and it was due to their use of magic and warrior skills that the
battles were often turned to the advantage of the side which used them.
They were often honoured and many gained riches and power and became
Lords ruling their own lands. Over the years however they began to fade
away. Many took up lives of solitude and few retained their status of Lord.
Nowadays there are few left and most keep to themselves. Each only
takes on one student within their lifetime so their number never rises.
A Warlock uses the thaco of a warrior and has the spells per day of
a wizard. He takes the best weapon and non-weapon proficiencies and the
best saving throws.
A Warlock has his spells locked with runes which he breaks when he
wished the spell to be cast. Each spell has a speed factor of one so they
are very fast at casting the spells which is particularly useful on the
battlefield. The use of the runes still however use the wizards spell slot
allotment so they do not have a nearly unlimited use of spells per day.
When creating the runestones they must design them for the proper spell
that will be cast when they break it. It takes an hour per level of spell
to create each runestone so they spend alot of their time doing this and
the situation can get quite difficult for them if they should start to
run out of their runes. This has both advantages and drawbacks. The advantages
are the speed in which they cast spells and the fact they do not need to
choose which spells to cast each day being able to cast the right one when
the situation arises so long as they have made one with that particular
spell captured. They do not require spell components or need to speak any
words when using the runes they simply break or crush the stone which contains
the runes. They also do not require spell books. The disadvantages are
that they have to spend great amount of times creating the stones and if
they are parted from them they are unable to cast magic.
The Warlock is either able to take a warrior kit or a wizard kit.
A Warlock can specialise at 9th level.
