Populous II Let's see, you want the good news or the bad news first? How bad news? No map editor and few units. If you liked Total Annihilation, you may not like this game, because of the lack of units. But think to yourself, did you really use even HALF the units in TA? However, these few units make up all the different types of units. 1 melee warrior, 1 unit converter, 1 long range unit, 1 spy unit (fun!), 1 construction unit. Then there's the all-powerful shaman. No other games has such a good defense against "rushes". A single shaman can destroy any attacking force if she's got the mana. Hopefully a few players will be able to "hack the maps" and allow map editing. The game's 3d graphic reminds me of myth, but you can do more with the terrain in Populous 3. If you feel like it, you can pretty much sink the opponents land into the sea (as an enemy shaman does to you in one stage). The levels are designed well, but the enemy AI needs some improvements. You could lightning bolt a tower and swamp the area and the computer will continuously send units to repair the tower, only to die in the swamp. The first couple of levels you can beat in under 30 minutes, but after that, the time can increase significantly (took me 3:45 hours to beat level 12). Overall, it's a good game and I recommend it |
