SINGING WITH CONFIDENCE
AIMS
- Find greater freedom, creativity and confidence with your voice through a mixture of singing, breathing and movement.
- Develop greater understanding of your voice; how it works, what helps and hinders it.
- Have the chance to experience using your voice individually and with a group.
- Enjoy yourself!
CONTENT
- Introduction to the basic techniques of good voice production.
- Opportunities to sing with the group in a variety of ways, including songs, chants, rounds, humming, toning, and singing harmonies.
- Opportunities to 'perform' to the group.
- Opportunities for individual coaching both within the context of the group, and in a 'masterclass' format.
- While there is an overall structure to each module, I like to respond to the interests, needs and flow of each group as it evolves.
- Regular handouts summarise the course.
- In general, Module 1 is mostly group singing, with opportunities to sing alone briefly if you want to.
- In Module 2, as well as more advanced group work, you have the opportunity at some point to have individual coaching in front of the others for about 20 minutes.
- In Module 3, you will have a second chance to have a longer individual slot one evening, as well as singing in harmonies and parts with others.
NB While you will be encouraged from time to time to sing by yourself, it is entirely up to you if you want to take up that opportunity. However, this course provides an ideal opportunity for you to try singing alone in front of others in a safe, supportive environment.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- A willingness to sing and have a go!
- No previous experience is necessary.
- You may attend one, two or all three 5-week modules, deciding after each module whether you want to do the next one.
- Modules 2 and 3 are open only to those who have worked with me before, either in a Module 1, a whole-day workshop, or one-to-one.
- There is normally an upper limit of 12 students for any of these courses.
