Unique
Anime Sites
Compiled by Anne "Lady Akane" Packrat
I've been a net.otaku now for about a year or so. During
that time I've seen many sites that could only be called unique (at least
in polite company). Some of these sites provide files or pictures that
aren't available anywhere else, while some just make you wonder what the
heck the author was on when he or she created the site. Without further
ado, I present some the unusual, strange and just plain silly anime
sites of the Internet...
You can get games, desktop themes, software, just about
anything type of file you want related to anime on the Internet....
- Otaku World - Jenniko-Chan's
Anime Toy Chest - Jenniko-chan has gathered *lots* of "unusual"
anime-related games, screensavers, icons, and other goodies. While you're
visiting the Toy Chest, check out Otakuworld itself. Otakuworld offers
several anime desktop themes, the KISS doll page and the new "Kamibashi"
storytelling system.
- Sailor Moon
Quake Page- Are you addicted to Quake? How about adding an anime twist?
The guys who run this page update it nearly everyday, and provide everything
you need in order to have a "Moon Prism Power" Quake experience.
(For a really surreal experience try what a buddy of mine does... Play
Sailor Moon Quake while listening to surf music....)
- L.J. Newt's
Anime Arcade ! - There's a number of fun Ranma and Oh My Goddess! games
here created by L.J. himself. My personal favorite is Ranma Invaders -
Space Invaders with Akane throwing mallets...
- Anime Items To
Spruce Up Your Desktop - Exactly what it says, this site is a good
place to make your computer into an otaku's paradise.
One of the first pages I created for HammerSpace
was a "You know you're addicted Ranma 1/2 when..." page. Since
then I've found two others on the web...
Sometimes you can find anime-related "web-based services"...
- Send a Anime
e-card- Send an otaku friend an online card! You can choose from a
variety of shows. The reciever of your card is notified by e-mail that
he has a card. He's then given a code that he should use in order to pick
it up.
- ICQ List - ICQ Anime
Edition - ICQ is a program that allows you to find out when your friends
are online. You can also send messages, files or chat with anyone else
online. The maintainers of this site are trying to list all of the anime
fans that are registered with ICQ.
Finally there are sites that are just really strange...
- The Worst
Sailor Moon Pages - The people who run this site review Sailor Moon
pages, with (often harsh) descriptions of each. If you're looking for truly
awful sites, just jump to their "Worst Sailor Moon Site of the Month".
- Welcome to Anime
University - Want to become an anime character but don't feel that
you have the know-how in order to do so? Well, why not visit this site
and enroll for next semester?
- The Anime
Purity Test - Do you watch those adult animes like Uroskidoji or
La Blue Girl? Think you're the most perverted of hentais? Why not
take this test and find out?
- 101 Things to do
with a Dead Totoro - A totoro is a cute cuddly raccoon from the anime
My Neighbor Totoro. Why would someone want to create a website like
this? Beats me. I guess they just had a lot of dead totoros on their hand
and needed something to do with them...
- Laws of Japanese
Animation - If you've watched anime for awhile you might have noticed
that the characters often can ignore basic physics principles, but like
all things, anime does follow some type of laws....
- Emiko's Genesis Genesis... the
birthplace of all anime characters. Emiko Kawasaki works enforcing the
laws around and in Genesis. Emiko's Agent, Ian, has set up this site and produces a
manga of his own in order to chronicle the exploits of Emiko, her sidekick, Mai, and all
of the other weird and wonderful Genesis characters.
Emiko Kawasaki
Mai-chan
Well, that's it for this time. Special thanks to Ace Band Age for suggesting
the Surfer music\Sailor Quake combination, and to Emiko's Agent for allowing Emiko's
and Mai's pictures to appear in this feature. If you have any suggestions, comments
or questions, please mail them to me.
