Yes, that's Tamahome and Tasuki. They get AWFULLY snuggly sometimes in the manga. ^v^

All right, we discovered that yes, we do have access to a scanner, and yes, Priya can figure out how to work it. So...manga scans! Most of these are enormous SPOILERS so beware. No thumbnails, just links, because I'm lazy. ^_^

And here's a little info. Now, I'll assume here you have no manga, or have little or no knowledge about 'em, just in case. ^_^ Ye experienced ones, skip ahead. ^_^

Manga is the Japanese word for what we might term "comic books." There are some similarities, yes. Both are drawn media, used to tell a story. However, there are some differences. For one thing, manga is black and white, as opposed to color. I guess we'd call them "graphic novels". They're thicker than most comic books are - like an half an inch thick. And they're about 4.5" wide by 7.5" tall - smaller than most comic books. They're basically like drawn books.

When you get manga, if you weren't aware of this ( I wasn't; I don't take, haven't taken, nor ever will take Japanese formally; I have an otaku's grasp of Japanese. ^_- ) they read back to front, right to left, top to bottom. Almost completely reverse from western-style books. The manga we get are the compilations of the weekly/monthly episodes published in manga mangazines, which would kind of be like Mixxzine here; publishing a little of many stories at a time. Shoujo Komikku is the popular shoujo magazine that published FY; Nakayoshi published Sailormoon. ( It's kind of like buying one of those Far Side collections....except different. ^_^ I hope I'm making sense here. ^_^ )

There's about 5-6 manga "episodes" per volume, and each manga is about 200 pages long.

Right. Fushigi Yuugi has 18 volumes. 13 volumes were covered by the TV series, approx. 4 TV episodes per volume. The remaining 5 volumes of manga were animated as a 6-part OVA series. OVA 1 was weird; it didn't follow the manga at all. But OVA 2 is attempting to; episode 1 *sort* of covers manga 14 ( chopping big pieces out of it..like Aidou :(, episode 2 covers manga 15, episode 3 covers manga 16, episode 4 covers the first half of manga 17, episode 5 finishes off 17 and episode 6 covers 18. ^_^ I have some manga volume summaries from part two here.

So here are some scans from the Fushigi Yuugi manga, drawn by the awesome Watase Yuu. It'll give you an idea about how the characters look in the manga, and how Watase's drawing style changes over time.

Enjoy!! If you have any specific requests, email me and Kristi and I will do our best to get them up pronto! We have, between the two of us, all of the FY manga except for 14. Kishana has kindly scanned in some pics for us from volume 2! Wai! Arigato! ^_^

And remember, if you use any of these scans, either ask us and:
