Ranma 1/2 is a martial arts comedy by Rumiko Takahashi, also known for other works like Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku. The story begins with Soun Tendo gathering his 3 daughters; Kasumi age 19, Nabiki age 17 and Akane age 16 and telling them that one of them will become the fiancee of the son of an old friend of his...Genma Saotome. However his son, Ranma appears to be a girl not a boy! The truth is soon revealed: Ranma becomes a girl if he is splashed with cold water due to a curse. The only way for him to become normal is to be splashed with hot water. Akane is chosen by her sisters to be his fiancee since she hates boys and Ranma is considered as being only half a boy by her sisters... The story gets more complicated from there. Another girl, Ukyou, shows up claiming to be a long-lost fiancee of Ranma's. Ranma knows nothing of this, but it apears that Ranma's father, Gen, had mad a deal with Ukyou's father, when Ranma was a little boy that Ranma was supposed to be Married to her when he came of age. As you get into the series, more people arrive,upper-classman Kuno, who can't decide between his pig-tailed goddess(Ranma in female form) and Akane Tendo, he also has a holier-than-thou atitude. Then comes Ryoga, who turns into a little black pig called P-Chan, who loves Akane. After Ryoga, we meet the twisted sister of Kuno, Kodachi. Then there is a girl from China called Shampoo who is always causing trouble because she is in love with Ranma and wants to kill the competition(Akane & Ukyou). More come, which just means more lovable characters to fall in love with, and more trouble for Ranma and Akane! This is a VERY excellent series, I highly recommend it!
