The lead kick is a very thorough and vital part of Jeet Kune Do. The lead kick is similar to the lead punch. The Kick can be executed a variety of different ways such as a strike to the knee or shin. Bruce put alot of study into this very simple and very efficient kick. It is a weapon of offense and defense, and is a leg equivalent of the Western Boxing jab. The kick is much longer and much stronger than a jab, and much harder to defend against. Not to mention, executed with a pair of shoes on it hurts like hell.

You may ask, what makes this particular technique so dangerous and so effective? It's really quite simple. When someone throws a punch at you, watch their legs. You'll notice that the closest object of theirs to you is their leg. You see most fighters step with their leg before they throw a punch. The leg will be stuck way out and unguarded. What's your closest weapon? The lead kick. WHAM!! To the knee (or shin). You will notice the expression of surprise and pain on your opponent.

1. To execute the kick stand in your basic JKD ready stance. (The kick can be used from the on-guard position and with the endless varieties of footwork).
   
2. At the right point (for attack or defense), the leg will shoot out like a side kick or front kick (the front kick will be more of a stomp).
   
3. Your target will be the shin or knee and can be used as a stop kick during an attack.
   
4. The kick should be followed up with hand strikes like the lead straight, hooks, etc.
   
5. The strike can usually be masked by a finger jab (throw a fake strike up in the opponents face and they'll never see it coming).
   
6. Remember: Practice Makes Perfect, and one punch never wins a fight.
