Wishes Come True
Chapter 1 - Strange Encounter

Adele looked out of her kitchen window. 14 shooting stars flew across the sky. Immediately, Adele closed her eyes, clasped her hands & started wishing 14 wishes. Even though she wished 14 times, all her wishes were the same. "There! I'm pretty sure my wish will come true at last!" said Adele.

The next day saw Adele lying on her back on a mattress reading her favourite comic, Yu Yu Hakusho. Suddenly, Adele felt strange. It was as if her surroundings had warped. Adele looked around but nothing of the sort happened. Then, the Yu Yu Hakusho comic started trembling all by itself!

"Oof!"

Something hard & heavy fell on Adele. She couldn't see what it was because there was something black & hairy covering her face.

"Stupid ningens! This is the last time I will associate with them!"

This tone! This sentence! It all seemed so familiar to Adele but she just couldn't place it. And what was that disturbing hairy thing in her face?! It irritated her a lot. She tried to sit up but couldn't.

Hiei lay flat on his chest. Earlier on, some human had woke him up & caused him to fall out of a tree. Fortunately, he had landed on something soft. His hand groped around what he supposed to be the ground & touched something soft & bouncy.

"Aiiiyyyeeeeee!!!!!!!"

Slap! Slap! Slap!

Hiei was astounded. Why had the ground slapped him? And, in the first place, how could the ground slap him?! He looked ahead & found he was lying on a female ningen!!

"Argh! Ningens again!"

Quickly, Hiei sat up. What a disgusting thought! He had fallen on a ningen & touched the ningen's. . . Hiei refused to think further.

"Hiei? Is that you? Is it really you??"

Adele was estatic. So the hard & heavy thing that had fallen on her was Hiei! And, the black hairy thing covering her face was Hiei's hair! Luckily for her, Hiei was short, otherwise, when he fell out of the book, he would have met her face to face & would probably have kissed her when he fell.
Adele blushed a bright red at this thought.

< And. . . he touched my. . . body . . . > Adele thought. She blushed an even brighter red.

"Hn."

Hiei tried to get his dignity back. Falling on a girl was a loss of dignity for him & he had to fall on a female ningen! He stared at the girl. Her face had turned red & he hated it. Hiei turned around & tried to get a grasp of his surroundings.

Hiei wondered.

Hiei had a lot of unanswered questions. He wanted to question the girl but he disliked her & would rather be in doubt. Besides, the girl was looking at him weirdly, as if he were some god or something like that. He hated it. How he wished that Kurama, Yusuke or even that stupid Kuwabara were here with him! At least he would feel more at ease, even with stupid Kuwabara.

Suddenly, there was a hollow sound, as if the air in the room were being sucked into a vacuum. The comic book which Adele had dropped onto the mattress when Hiei fell on her, glowed. A ray of light came from the book!

Yusuke jumped out from the ray of light & almost fell on Hiei who had darted away almost immediately. Yusuke looked around suspiciously. Just as he was about to speak, someone landed on him.

"Ouch! Watch it, will you?"

"Sorry"

Kuwabara apologised. He moved away & his eyes fell on Hiei who had happened to stare at him.

"What the. . .?"

Just then, Kurama appeared. He somersaulted from the ray of light & landed with a flourish on the double-deckered bed in Adele's room.

"Wow!! All of you guys here! And in my room too!!"

Adele was becoming increasingly excited. She was so happy! Her one wish had come true at last! With happiness & excitement written all over her face, she looked at each of the comic characters in turn.

Hiei. . . was as usual, dressed in that black cape of his. He looked suspicious & had seemed to breathe a sign of relief at Kurama's appearance.

Yusuke was in casual wear & there was a small red mark on his face. He appeared calm but his eyes were darting here & there. Unconsciously, his hand had closed 3 of its fingers, with its forefinger & thumb sticking out, resembling the shape of a gun.

*sigh* Kuwabara was . . . looking idiotic as he always had. His face was fixed in a wide silly grin & he was carrying a bunch of flowers stupidly in his arm.

Last but not the least, Kurama was still on top of the double-deckered bed. He looked so cool & his hair had settled into place nicely. He peeped over the edge of the bed & saw the rest below. Without a single noise, he jumped over the edge & landed nicely on his toes, just in front of Adele.

Adele gasped & sighed.

The four looked at each other, and deciding that Adele was the cause of their being brought here, they went forward to her.

Adele got a rude shock when she realised what was happening. Yusuke looked so unhappy, Hiei seemed to threaten her with his eyes & Kuwabara. . . was still grinning from ear to ear. . .
Only Kurama looked at her calmly.

Kurama stared intently into Adele's eyes with those eyes of his that seemingly melted every girl's heart.

"Excuse me, but could you tell us where we are? We did not arrange to meet & we suddenly find ourselves facing each other. I am sure there is a reason for this. Could you be so kind as to tell us why? We would not harm you, rest assured."

Kurama had spoken to her!! Adele, a girl barely seventeen! For a moment, she was in total bliss.

"Hey! Tell us quick & stop dreaming!"

"Ah...yes Yusuke. . .please don't be angry. . .I er...wished all of you here. . .I mean, I just made a wish yesterday, and today, all of you just popped out of my comic book. As to where all of you are, this is my bedroom . . . "

Yusuke groaned.

"Of course we know it's your bedroom! Can't it be any obvious?"

"Well. . ." Adele swallowed, "you are all in my country, Singapore. The district where I am living is Hougang Central. . ."

Yusuke & Kuwabara looked slightly bewildered while Kurama seemed lost in thought.

"Singapore. . .where have I heard it before? Ah...the small island near the equator? At the south end of the Malay Peninsula?"

Adele nodded eagerly.

"How come I've never heard of it. . ." muttered Yusuke.

"That's because you weren't paying a lot of attention to your Geography teacher, right Yusuke?"

"How. . .how do you know?! And. . . and. . . and who are you?!"

"Well, my name's Adele Chia. Barely seventeen & likes reading a lot, especially comic books. No boyfriend at the moment & is currently studying at Cedar Girls' Secondary. I. . ."

"Adele!!! What are you doing in your room?! Why are there so many voices!"Adele's mother shouted from the kitchen.

"Nothing mum! I'm just doing some role-playing!" Adele shouted back.

"Er. . .Adele?"

"What?! What?! Oh, it's you Kurama. You gave me such a shock."

"Adele...could you tell us what date is it today?"

"Hmm...November, Wednesday the 18th. 1998."

"What?! 1998?!" Yusuke fainted.

"Hn. Stupid ningens." Hiei sneered & blurred out of sight.

"Oh no. . . where is Hiei-san?" Adele looked around, twirling her head of long brownish-black hair here & there.

"Kurama, where is Hiei? I'm worried! He might scare people outside with his appearing & disappearing out of nowhere. . .What am I to do?" Adele asked anxiously.

"Adele, is your door closed?" Kurama looked at the mattress, musing at the varied cartoon patterns on it.

"Why, yes, of course."

"Then, do not worry. If Hiei had gone out, we would have heard the door close. I know Hiei well enough & I know he would rather people not take any notice of him. Besides," Kurama smiled. "Hiei dislikes ningens, which is also known as humans in your language. So, he won't let himself be seen by them."

A big clang sounded throughout the whole house. Then, someone screamed, followed by more clangs.

"Oh no! That's my mum! Er...guys, I think you better stay here just in case my mum gets shocked by you guys."

Adele ran like lightning to the kitchen. She saw her mother in a half sitting, half kneeling position. Her mother's face was as pale as a sheet. The entire kitchen was littered with pots & pans.

Near Adele's mother lay a short crumpled form. It was decked out in black & it lay sprawled out, with its back on the floor. Adele crept slowly up the figure. She couldn't see the figure's face as its face had been covered by a overturned wok. With great caution, Adele took the wok away to see who was it that had caused her mother such great alarm. Adele gasped.

"Hiei-san!!"

Adele slapped her hand against her forehead. She shook her head slowly.

"And I really believed what Kurama said. Talk about Hiei not showing himself to humans! My mum has already seen him!" Adele muttered to herself.

Adele looked again at the short form. *sigh!*
< Hiei looks so cute when he's sleeping. . .so calm, so peaceful! >

"Adele, get away from that creature now!"

Adele's mother had recovered from her shock. She was now moving towards Adele & tried to pull Adele away from Hiei.

"It's a dangerous creature, Adele! Get away from it now or it'll kill you when it wakes up!"

"Mum, it's a 'he' , not an 'it' "

Quickly, Adele filled her mother in on her encounter with the Yu Yu Gang & how they had appeared.

"What? I've just been frightened by a mere comic character?!"
