Rurouni Kenshin ~Meiji Kenkaku Romantan
Kenshin the Vagabond ~ Romance of a Meiji Swordsman

"One hundred and forty years ago, near the end of the Edo Dynasty, in the whirlpool of Kyoto violence that began with Perry's landing in Japan, there was a warrior called Hitokiri Battousai, who paved the way for the new Meiji era with these bloody battles. But near the conclusion of the bloodshed, he disappeared and no one ever saw or heard from him again. With the passage of time he became a legend, known simply as 'saikyo,' or 'the strongest.' And so our story begins, in Tokyo, in the 11th year of the Meiji era..."

This is the story of the man called Himura Kenshin, the legendary Hitokiri Battousai who became a rurouni with a vow not to kill. After ten years of wandering he meets a young woman named Kamiya Kaoru who teaches kenjutsu that embodies his ideal of the sword that protects people. With his reversed blade, he lives protecting the people he loves in order to atone for the lives he has taken in the past.
