HISTORY OF THE TOURNAMENTS

Welcome!! You have entered the Archives of the Past Street Fighter Tournaments Held. I will give you a Brief Run-Down of each Tournament and What happened in it.

In the Begining, there was

Street Fighter Was the first Real "Fighting" game of it's time. Released in 1987, Street Fighter Introduced the World to Two Young Fighters named Ken and Ryu (Who, in this Game wore Moccasins?!) And the Only way to Choose Between each other was to Determine What side of the Game you wanted to play it on (Ryu: 1st Player, Ken: 2nd Player.) The Game also was the only Capcom Fighter to have a Pressure Sensitive "Force Pads" that, if you hit the Pads hard Enough, Would cause Them to do the Famous Special Moves. Do to the Fact that the Force Pads Got Worn Down Easily, Capcom introduced the Six-Button Control Panel That would be a Staple in Video Games for years to come.

Release Date:1987

Playable Characters: Ryu and Ken

Unplayable Characters: Retsu, Geki, Joe, Mike, Lee, Gen, Birdie, Eagle, Adon, Sagat.

Unique Features: Force Pads, Choice of Starting Area, Board Breaking Bonus Stage.

Then Came

Street Fighter 2 Came out in 1990. After Making a Name for themselves With the Side-Scrolling Beat-em-up, Final Fight, Capcom Made Video Game History By Releasing Street Fighter 2 and It became a Huge Hit!!! The Game Once Again Brought Back the Classic Legends Ryu and Ken, But it also had The Option to play as 6 Other Characters, Including The First Female in Fighting Games, Chun-Li. The Game also gave players a Wide Array of Movements for all the Characters, Giving People a Whole New Idea of Play. Since the game was so Popular, Capcom Decided to make another Version of SF2 that would be as good as the Original but better!!!!

Release Date:1990

Playable Characters: Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, E. Honda, Guile, Blanka, Zangief, Dhalsim.

Unplayable Characters: Balrog (Mike Bison), Vega (Balrog), Sagat, M. Bison (Vega).

Unique Features: Car Bonus Stage, Flaming Barrel Bonus Stage (Arcade Only), Breaking all Dropping Barrels Bonus Stage (Home Versions Only).

Soon Came

Street Fighter: Championship Edition (or Champ's Edition for Short) Gave Us what the Fans Dreamed about when it came to the Street Fighter Series. Giving players The Ability to play as the Bosses and Have Two Guys Fight as the Same Character and New Colors for the Characters Made this one of the Revolutionary Video Games of this time, as many Fighting Games would Credit This one for Introducing those Features. However, Soon Pirated Versions of the Game would Be Released with a Chip that made the Game Do Wierd Stuff (Ex. Chun-Li Did her Lightning Kick and a Fireball would Fly out, The Ability To "Morph" Etc.) In Response to these Bogus Versions of the Game, Capcom Ordered that all Phony Versions of Champ's Edition Should be found and Confiscated and Distributers of the Chip Arrested. Also, Capcom Decided it was time to Show those Piraters a Lesson and Released Street Fighter 2: Turbo Hyper Fighting a Year later.

Release Date: 1991

Playable Characters: All

Unplayable Characters: N/A

Unique Features: First game to have Playable Bosses and Color Changes.

After that

Street Fighter: Turbo Hyper Fighting Was made in Response to the Phony Street Fighter Championship Editions with the Illegal Chips That was in Curculation. When this game was Released, Some were even Wondering if this even Was an Official Capcom Game (Even DANfan himself!!!!) This game gave us Tremendous Speed for a Street Fighter Game and Inputed some of the Most Famous moves In the Street Fighter Universe (Ken and Ryu's Air Tatsumakisenpukyaku, Chun-Li's Kiko-Ken Fireball Etc.) However, Gamers were Starting to Get Restless with the Street Fighter 2 Incarnations and the Famous "Capcom Can't Count to 3" Chants started to erupt. Knowing fully well that they may lose their audience To the Then Big Name Arcade Game Mortal Kombat, Capcom Created Super Street Fighter: The New Challengers to try to win back their Audience.

Release Date: 1992

Playable Characters: All

Unplayable Characters: N/A

Unique Features: INCREDABLE SPEED!!!! More Cooler New Colors as Starting Colors.

Following that Came

Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers Gave us Some New things that Street Fighters Never Seen Before. Not only did it have the Cool Ryu Fireball Opening Intro, But it Introduced us to 4 New Characters in the Street Fighter Universe and All the Facial Portraits in the Game Were Redrawn for a More "Anime" Look. The 4 Fighters Were Dee-Jay, a Jamacian Reggae Singer/Street Fighter, Thunderhawk, a Native American Indian living in Mexico, Fei Long, a Kung Fu Master Modeled after Famous Martial Arts Movie Star Bruce Lee, and Cammy, A Fighter with a Dark Past. However, People Started Complaining that This wasn't the Then Fabled SF3 and That it was Slower than Turbo Hyper Fighting so Capcom Once again Decided it was time to make one last Street Fighter 2 Incarnation.... One that We Sure Take for Granted.

Release Date: 1993

Playable Characters: All

Unplayable Characters: N/A

Unique Features: The Cool Ryu Intro

Soon It Came...

Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo was released in response to Fan's Complaints about the Slowness of SSF2. The Only Flaw I had with the Game was that The Intro Screen was Re-Hashed by Cutting Out most of the Original Intro from SSF2 and Adding the Chun-Li/Cammy Thing in the Intro. This Game also Introduced us to the Super Combo System That has Been the Trademark of Capcom Fighters Ever Since. And, Due to the Enormous Popularity of Mortal Kombat, A Secret Character was Added Who would be later known as Akuma. This Game Did give us What Capcom is now Famous For, People were Still getting Restless For Street Fighter 3. I don't remember many People Playing this game At my Arcade So I call this the SF2 game that Us Gamers Take for Granted.

Release Date: 1994

Playable Characters: All (Akuma Playable with Code.)

Unplayable Characters: N/A

Unique Features: The Intro, New Moves.

Just then Came in!!

Street Fighter Alpha (Zero in Japan) Was a Nice Change of Pace for the Fans of Street Fighter. Giving the Fighters a More "Anime" look and Giving each Character a Storyline (Something that The Box-Office Bomb, "Street Fighter: The Movie" Tried to do a year Earlier). The Game Gave us new Characters and Told us about a Story about what happened in-between What happened After Street Fighter 1 and Before Street Fighter 2. Alpha Also Gave Final Fight Fans Something to Cheer For with The Return of Favorites Guy and Sodom And also Gave us the Secret Characters Bison, Dan, And Akuma with a Facial Pic Rather than A Shadow of him. The Game also Gave The Player New Super Combos for each Character And Gave us the Cool Feature of Alternate Bosses. This Game Was A Huge Sensation and Put Capcom out of their "Street Fighter 2 Clone" Slump But Still Fans Were Getting Restless for Street Fighter 3 But their answer would not Come to Them until After the Sequel of Alpha was Released....

Release Date: 1995

Playable Characters: All (Dan, Akuma, and Bison Playable With a Code.)

Unplayable Characters: N/A

Unique Features: First Street Fighter Game Released for The Playstation.

Then On the Fifth Day Came

Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gave us A lot of improvements from the Original Alpha game. Not only was The Secret Characters playable Without the Use of a Code, But It gave us the Return of Classic Legend Gen and Final Fight Alumnus Rolento (Rolent in Japan), and the First Appearance of Cute little Sakura!!! This game Gave each guy their own Stage rather than use Palette Swaps of other Stages. This game also Introduced Fans to the "Custom Combo" System where any Killing blow after a Brief Flash of Light after Pressing Two Punches and One Kick or Two Kicks and One Punch Would result in a Blue Flash Rather than a Yellow Flash of Light and gave you a Winning Icon Based on your Character. This Game became Huger than the Original when It came to popularity and, after Years of Waiting, Street Fighter 3 Was Released.

Release Date: 1996

Playable Characters: All (Evil Ryu Playable only in Arcade & Sega Saturn Versions and "Classic" Characters Playable only in Saturn Version and "Super" Akuma and "Street Fighter 2" Chun-Li Playable with Codes.)

Unplayable Characters: Evil Ryu and "Classic" Characters Unplayable in Playstation Version.

Unique Features: Custom Combo Feature.

Then, Out of the Blue Came

After years of Waiting, Street Fighter 3 Was Released but Didn't live up to the Hype that Capcom Was Trying to give to it, Considering how long It took for Capcom to actually Make it. The Game Did Bring back Ryu and Ken, but Failed to Bring Back Favorites Chun-Li and Others. This Game Introduced us to a New Breed of Street Fighters Including Sean, Who, Like Sakura is With Ryu, is a Big Ken Fan and Alex who Seems to be A Mix of Wrestler/Army Psycho. The Game also Changed the name of the Super Combos and Called it "Super Arts" and now you had to Choose one (One?!) of the Super Arts and Use that against all your Opponents. Since this Game was a HUUUUUUUUUUGE Disappointment for Capcom themselves, Capcom Worked on Street Fighter 3: Second Impact and Soon They Released a Game that, They Didn't Even Know, Would Cause the Street Fighter Series to be a Cult Phenominon!!!!

Release Date: 1996 (That's Six Years after SF2!!!!)

Playable Characters: Ryu, Ken, Sean, Elena, Oro, Necro, Dudley, Yun & Yang, and Ibuki.

Unplayable Characters: Gil

Unique Features: Newer Super Arts, Super Art Difference Playability.

Then The Ultimate Came...

X-Men Vs. Street Fighter Was Intended to be sort of a Joke Crossover Between The Street Fighters and Marvel Comic's Famous Brand of Mutants, The X-Men. Since The Street Fighters in this game were made with the Same Model Board Made to Make X-Men: Children of the Atom a year earlier, It was no suprise that These two Worlds would Blend Easily!!!! This Game Introduced Fighting Fans to the Famous "Team Battle Mode", Something that, Rival Company SNK innovated with the King of Fighters Games with the 3 on 3 Battles. However, SNK Didn't do what Capcom Made Better by Making 2 on 2 Battles where BOTH (and I mean BOTH!!) Characters were playable at the Same time!!! Also, Capcom made all the Street Fighters Eat their Vitamins Good, Cause they Totally Beefed up the Street Fighter's Super Combos!!!! This Game Became A Big Sensation as Fans Played this game over and over and over Again!!!!! Capcom found a Winner in what Street Fighter 3 Didn't do!!!! And The Vs. Series of Street Fighter Games Was Born!!!!!!!!!

Release Date: 1996

Playable Characters: Street Fighter Side: Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li (Her Alpha Costume playable With a Code), Dhalsim, Zangief, Charlie, Cammy, M. Bison (Vega in Japan) and Akuma (Gouki in Japan). X-Men Side: Cyclops, Wolverine, Rouge, Gambit, Storm, Sabretooth, Juggernaut, and Magneto (The Master of Magnitisim!!!!)

Unplayable Characters: Apocalypse (NOTE: Playable In Playstation and Saturn Japan Versions with a Code.)

Unique Features: Chain Combos Finally a Reality!!!! First game with the "Team Battle Mode".

Click Here for my X-Men Vs. Street Fighter Fanfic Written by Me!!!

Then They Hit you again with:

Street Fighter 3: Second Impact Was Released the Same year as X-Men Vs. Street Fighter and Street Fighter EX (Which I'll EX-plain about later.) Second Impact was Ment to Try to make the Street Fighter 3 Game more Fun to play, Considering the Horrible Following towards Street Fighter 3. Although in this game everyone in it was playable, Only Three New Characters were Added. They Were Hugo (Who Was An Andore in the Final Fight Games, The First Final Fighter in the Numeral Street Fighter Timeline.), Urien, (Urine?) Who was Gil's Brother (He was just a Palette Swap of Gil) and An older looking Akuma. This Game also had Funky Lighting In it cause it looked Dark from my Prospective for a Street Fighter Numeral game. Still, Fans Didn't flock to play this game again, and Thus, After all the Hype about the game, Street Fighter 3 was a big Dissapointment.

Release Date: 1996

Playable Characters: All (Akuma Playable with Code)

Unplayable Characters: N/A

Unique Features: Hugo being the First Final Fight Alumnus In a Numeral Street Fighter Game.

When that Was Released, Came into the Fray!!!

Street Fighter EX was made In the Response of the Popularity of the 3-D fighting game Craze (Ex. Tekken Series, Vurtua Fighter Series). Since this Game Was Co-Produced By Arika Corporation, There was a whole Bunch of New Characters to go around in it!!! Popular Favorites Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Guile Came back for another Beating, And Fans were introduced to The Aikido Fighter Hokuto, The Superhero with the Most, Skullomainia, and Others. This Game, although had the Three Super Bars, Didn't go the Way of Alpha in terms of Super combos but instead, Introduced gamers to the Cool Concept of Linking Super Combos which, In my opinion KICKS ASS!!!! When It was Released for the Playstation as Street Fighter EX Plus @, It had the Concept of having Time Released Characters in the game (Kairi, Allen Snider, Blair, Akuma, Darun Mister, Garuda, and Bison) Playable as Well as having the First "3-D" Apperances of Zangief and Dhalsim (Do these Guys Party Together??) and Sakura and Also Gave us the First PSX Appearance of Evil Ryu and Blood Hokuto as well as Cycloid Beta And Gamma, Who, are Just what Programmers use as Polygon Models For 3-D games. This game kicked ass and I can't wait until I get the Chance to play SFEX2 in my Area!!!!

Release Date: SFEX Arcade: 1996. SFEX Plus @ (PSX): 1997

Playable Characters: All (In Arcade, Some Characters were Time Released and PSX characters were Accessable through a Code or a Point System in Expert Mode.)

Unplayable Characters: In the Arcade, Cycloid Beta And Gamma, Along with "Super" Akuma, Bison and Garuda were not Available.

Unique Features: The Accuracy Barrel Breaking Bonus Stage Found In PSX version, Point System in Expert Mode, First 3-D appearances of Sakura, Zangief, and Dhalsim.

Then Blew your Mind!!!!

Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter was Sort of a "Sequel" To X-Men Vs. Street Fighter In terms of Similarity to it. This Game Rocked Big time cause it brought Capcom's Greatest Street Fighters and Earth's Mightest Heroes of Marvel Comics!!!! This Game Had a lot of Cool Stuff in it, Including the Fact that Some moves from Street Fighter 3 were Added to Ryu and Ken without the Drawback of only the use of one of them!!!! and It Had Some Cool Characters and Cool Secret Characters!!! (DANfan NOTE: I actually had the Comic Book with Spidey in his Silver Armor!!!!) This Game is DANfan's Personal Favorite!!!!!

Release Date: 1997

Playable Characters: Street Fighter Side: Ryu, Ken, DAN!!!, Chun-Li, Sakura, Dhalsim, Zangief, M. Bison, and Akuma. Marvel Super Heroes Side: Captain America!!!, Cyclops, Wolverine, Shuma-Gorath (Whatever it is!!) The Incredible Hulk, The Amazing Spiderman, Omega Red, Magneto(?) Secret Characters: Mega Zangief (looked like A Resident Evil Zombie!!!) U.S. Agent (In the Comics, he was Captain America's Replacement.) Silver Armor Spiderman (I don't remember how and Why he had this Armor but It only lasted for one Comic.) and Shadow (Charlie's Corpse Back From the Dead??)

Unplayable Characters: Apocalypse and "Cyber" Akuma.

Unique Features: A Real "Street Fighter/Marvel" Crossover!!!

Then It Cometh!!!

Marvel Vs. Capcom was a Cool Concept for a Fighting Game of this mangatude. Although this was the First game were Ryu was Without Buddy Ken, It did introduce and Re-Introduce Some Famous Capcom Heroes. This game was the First Fighting Game Appearances of "The Blue Bomber" Megaman (Rockman in Japan), Captain Commando (Capcom's Old Mascot and Hero of his own Final Fight-Style Video Game) And Strider Hiryu (That's Right THE STRIDER!!!) There wasn't that many new Characters on Marvel's Side, the only one was Basically Venom. This game also included the "Third Helper" System in this game, were a randomly selected Character was Chosen For your group (Some were Good Helpers while others were Pieces of Crap) However, this system could be Rigged by Using a Code, which also unlocked Secret Helpers Shadow and a Sentinel of X-Men Fame. This game also had Alternate versions of Characters to be sort of like another Famous Character of Marvel and Capcom Fame Who's Coloring was Similar to that Character. They Were: "Thing" Hulk, "Iron Man" War Machine, "Lilith" Morrigan, and "Carnage" Venom. This also introduced The Mysterious "Shadow Lady" who was a Darker Chun-Li with A Super Combo that Released A kick-Ass Shinkuu Hadoken!!!! This Game is Really good and looks Decent for a Vs. Game.

Playable Characters: Capcom Characters (Name of Game they Appeared in in Brackets) Ryu, Chun-Li, Zangief (Street Fighter Series) Strider Hiryu (Strider) Captain Commando (Captain Commando) Jin (Cyberbots, a Japan Only Arcade Release) Megaman and Roll (Megaman Series) and Morrigan (Darkstalkers). Marvel Characters: Captain America, Venom, Gambit, Wolverine, Spiderman, Hulk, and War Machine.

Unplayable Characters: All the "Third Helpers" and Onslaught (Who, if your living under a Rock, IS PROFFESSOR X!!!!)

Unique Features: First Game where Ryu Is all alone (Sorry Ken Fans!!)

Then Was Taking you to the limit!!!

Street Fighter EX 2 was by far, a great advancement to the Street Fighter Series. The Game was far better in graphics and gameplay to it's Predecessor (The Real Tatsmakisempukayaku was Back!!!!!) and had it's share of new characters (It Reintroduced The Classic Favorites Blanka and Vega!!!!) I didn't play this game very long for a full evaluation, maybe I'll tell you all after a few more gameplays of this.

Release Date: 1997

Playable Characters: All (Kairi, Hokuto, and Shadowgeist Playable with a Code.)

Unplayable Characters: N/A

Unique Features: None that I know of right now

Then you told authority to Stick it with

Rival Schools: United By Fate (Japanese Name: Justice High School) Isn't really a Street Fighter game, but Since it has Sakura in it and it's one of my Personal Favorites, I'll post it up anyways!!!! The Storyline goes a little somethin' like this: Hyo, the Student Body President at The Elite Snob School Justice High School Brainwashes The Principal, Raizo, and Begins his Quest of World Domination!!!! (Kinda makes ya wonder what sparked him to this madness..... Did his Parents say "You can't Drive Till ya 21???") And it's up to the Students of Four Different Schools and the Teachers of Justice High to put a stop to his Madness!!!! The Four Schools are Taiyo High School (Your Run of the Mill High School) Gorin High School (The School full of Sports Buffs) Gedo High School (The School full of Street Punks) and Pacific High School (The Upstart American Transfer Students). Preferly, in America, you'd Get Arrested for stuff like this, but this is Japan's School System, so they don't give a Rats ass about it!!!! This Game, Gameplay Wise, Is like a Street Fighter Game, even though it also has a Tekken Feel with only four buttons to play with. The PSX Release of this Game Came with a "Evolution Disc" Which basically had More Features in it, however, The American Release of Rival School's Evolution Disc Was Hacked Big Time, as the Edit Character Mode (A Real Buyer for this game.) Was Taken out and Pre-Edited Characters were put in and The "Simulation Mode" Was also Taken out, possibly because of the Strong Sexual Themes Going for it (Who Wouldn't wanna have a Sleepover with Ms. Kyoko????)

Release Date: 1997 (PSX 1998)

Playable Characters: All (Pre-Edited Characters only in American Evolution Disc and "Special Female Costumes" Only in PSX Release)

Unplayable Characters: In American Evolution Disc, you Can't Make your own Fighter (DAMN, DAMN, DAMN!!!!)

Unique Features: Mini Games in Evolution Disc, More Features in the Japanese Evolution Disc.

Then you Started Screaming "Who's Yo Daddy?!" When Came out!!!!!

Street Fighter Alpha 3..... The Mother of All Street Fighters!!!! This is, by Far, the Best Street Fighter Game ever made!!!!! When this game came out, many were astonished at how Capcom made this the Ultimate in the Street Fighter series, as It brought a new concept of Gameplay into the Street Fighter Series. Now Players had to Choose Their Preference of the Super Combo Bar, now known as an "-ISM", against anyone who wanted some!!!! The 4 ISM's Were X-ISM (One Power bar, One Super Combo, Super Powerful, any Questions??) V-ISM (The traditional 3 Bar Combo System of SFA) Z-ISM (The Custom Combo System!!! But Be Quick, The Bar Goes Down Fast!!!!) and NO-ISM (If your a Traditionalist or you just want Gameplay like the Original SF2, Try this out!!!) The PSX Release of this Game (Currently Released in Japan as of this Writing) has made this much better than the arcade..... ALL OF THE CHARACTERS OF SSF2T ARE IN IT!!!!! That's right folks, Now Charlie has to have the "Shoto Brother" Curse with the Alpha Debut of Old Favorite, Guile!!!!! Man, I can't Wait till it's Released Stateside!!!! Sadly, this may be the last in the Alpha Series and The last game to have the Original SF2 Cast.... PLEASE SAY IT AIN'T SO CAPCOM!!!!!

Release Date: 1998 (PSX 1999)

Playable Characters: All!!!! (Guile, Evil Ryu, and Super Akuma Playable in PSX Version only)

Unplayable Characters: Super Bison (Beat him if you can because if ya don't, No Good Ending!!!!)

Unique Features: The -ISM Feature, The World Warrior Mode (Travel the World to Fight in Rigged Fights.) FIRST ALPHA GAME WITH THE ORIGINAL SSF2T CAST!!!

Then the Unthinkable Happened...

That's Right Folks, The Unthinkable did happen!!! Capcom and SNK, longtime rivals in the Fighting Game industry, made a truce to create the ultimate fighting game extravaganza.... SNK VS. CAPCOM!!! This game is packed with fighters from various SNK and Capcom games... and that's just the Start of it!!! This Game also contains Mini Games such as The Fighter's Olympics, where you choose from either the Team of the SNK fighters (Team Captain: Rimiruru from Samurai Shodown) or our favorites from the Capcom Series (Team Captain: Karin Kanzuki from Street Fighter Alpha 3) and they can compete in a Gold Hunting Battle with Arthur from Ghosts N' Goblins, A Slashing Contest with Jubei Yagyu from Samurai Shodown, A Dancing Game with Felicia from Darkstalkers, and a Gun Shootout game with Marco from Metal Slug (Which I might add, is one of the very few action games out in Arcades today) I suggest you grab your copy of this game Today!!!

Playable Characters: ALL!!! (Evil Ryu and "Orochi" Iori Yagami are Time Released Characters)

Unplayble Characters: None

Unique Features: The "Fighter Olympics", The Fact that The Rivalry Between Dan Hibiki and Ryo Sakazaki can finally be settled!!!

Then You went "Huh" Again with

SNK Vs. Capcom: Card Battle Clash really isn't a Fighting game, but it does contain Fighting Game Characters, So I'll explain about it anyways. Unlike Match Of The Millenium (The Game I talked about before) Card Battle Clash is more of your run of the mill Card Game A la Magic: The Gathering and Other Card games of this similar manner. The object of the Game is to eliminate your opponent using your character cards to strike your opponent for the victory. I haven't actually played the game (I saw someone who has it though) but I heard it's a pretty cool game, so if you like Fighting Games or Card Games, this is the game to grab!!!

Playable Characters: All The Cards Are Playable, but there is too much to list here!!!

Unplayable Characters: N/A

Unique Features: There are Two Different versions for Fanbase preferences(SNK Fans and Capcom Fans Versions), however, some cards are rare to find in some versions and some cards can't even be recieved in one version or another!!
