Hotohori is a very gentle, peace loving person but he feels lonely as an Emperor. The character on his neck is "Sei" or "Star" and it appears when protecting Miaka(just like Tamahome). As a kid, he was told of the legend of Suzaku No Miko and he hoped that this girl(Miaka)from another world would love him, and not just because he's an Emperor. When he saw Miaka for the first time, he falls in love with her and wants to be with her forever. Unfortunately, Miaka loves Tamahome, but he still loves her and is willing to protect her. He is an egomaniac because he thinks he is so handsome(he is handsome, but he's too confident with himself!). People always mistaken him as a female because sometimes he puts his long hair down and because of his gentle movements of a female. Above all, he is a very good Emperor.
