Everyone has their preference on which version of Macross they like. I enjoy both though at times there are elements of each which I prefer above the other. The key is to look at them as alternative universes. They are just possibilities. They are possibilities for our own world. I say, explore them both. I read the McKinney books, I am trying to get the original version of Macross subtitled. That’s why I hope StreamLine gets the new license for Robotech Perfect collection. That way everyone can enjoy both. I respect everyone’s opinion, on the matter. Even those who don’t like Macross. <<Well, I’d prefer that you’d keep that to yourself>> There are some people who think Mospeada or New Generation is better. I read the Sentinels because it’s just one more chance to see my favorite characters in action. I would even check out the Fanfictions. It’s a big universe in cyber land, and it’s my goal to help bring both traditions to life.

I admit though, I do have a bias. I think that since Super Dimensional Fortress was the original and Shoji Kawamori was the creator, I am more loyal to his vision. I was blown away by Macross Plus, I adore Macross 7, I loved Do You Remember Love. I think all Robotech fans should check out the original stuff subtitled. I think Macross fans should read at least the first six McKinney novels. There are many Sentinel fans out there, and I’d like to give them props too. I’m glad that someone’s keeping the tradition alive.

Some people have taken it as an offense that Carl Macek changed Macross. I am just glad he brought it over. Robotech was a great introduction to the world of Japanese animation. I enjoyed Macross and Mospeada, even Southern Cross. I also used to watch Captain Harlock. Look how many US fans are out there. Whenever I ask any twenty year old, they remember Robotech and often there’s a smile on their face. And isn’t that what counts? I think it does. Some of us can’t afford the tapes, so we have to turn on the tv and watch cartoon network. For us in the Bay Area, we wait till once a week to see a few episodes. So, it’s all good. I hope that my site caters to both universes. I hope that Robotech purists and Macross purists both enjoy this site equally. If you have any contributions, than let me know. Why all the different names??

When Macross was brought to the United States, the character names were Anglicized. So Hikaru found an equivalent in Rick, Misa in Lisa, and so on. The Japanese romanizations are a little bit tricky. The Japanese do not have an L, but in the Romanization of japanese the letter L is used. All the L letters sound very close to an R. So Millia does sound like Miriya. I try to use both names, unless I am concentrating on one version of the story. I also get tired of using the slashes to depict both. After you read through my web site you should know both names of the characters. For the most part I included pictures so you could guess that Hikaru is Rick. After awhile I'll clean it up and if I get a great demand to put both names of to stop jumping back and forth, then I'll do that.

• In the original Macross, the Zentraedi are trying to recover an alien vessel which crash landed on Earth. They were an unnamed enemy of the Zentraedi. <<I wonder who they were? Were they completely wiped out??>> In Robotech, it was Zor’s battle Fortress, and he was a rebel agains the Robotech Masters. Also in Macross, the Macross was damaged, but not destroyed. In the Macross sequels you can see it rebuilt. In Robotech SDF-1 was buried under three mounds and Zor crashed the Robotech Masters ship finally destroying it for good.
• The nearest equivalent to Robotech Masters, was Protoculture.
• In Macross Protoculture was a name of a civilization, not of an energy force.
• In Macross the Zentraedi were a far more ancient race, and the rebelled against the Protoculture.
• In Robotech, the similarities between humans and Zentraedi was a coincidence. In Macross, Protoculture came to Earth and manipulated humanity’s ancestors making humans a subrace of Protoculture just as Zentraedi were a subrace.
• Minmays songs are a lot nicer in the original Japanese.
• In Macross Rick and Lisa get married a lot sooner, around 2012 rather than 2018.
• In Macross there are no Robotech Masters nor Invid, and definitely not any Sentinels. Macross has Zentraedi, Anti-United Nations Rebels, Renegade Zentraedi, Varuata and Protodevlin.
• In Macross t is not rare to see Half human and half Zentraedi children. Max and Miriya are not the exception that prove the rule as in Robotech.
• Max and Miriya leave Earth with Macross 7 in 2040, instead of going with Rick and Lisa in Macross.
• Max and Miriya have seven daughters instead of two.
• UNSPACY instead of Robotech Defense Force
• In Macross, humans colonize other planets rapidly. There appears to be a rapid population explosion, from RPGs there was a cloning project.
• Rick get’s promoted to Admiral in 2016, what a rapid rise in ranks. But then I often wondered, why Max only Captain for Macross 7? He’d been in the service over 30 years. When I saw a subtitled version of Macross I heard Admiral Gloval being called Cancho, this is the same title used by the bridge on Fleet 7 in regard to Max Jenius. <<I just wonder about this.>>
• Max and Miriya’s first daughter’s name is Komillia, and she keeps her greenish hair. Komillia grows up to look like a nice combo of her Mom and dad and a kick ass pilot to bat.
• SDF-02 was not behind SDF-1 during Khryon’s attack, it was being built on Moon Base
• Robotech’s sequels are:Robotech II: the Sentinels, Robotech the movie: the Untold story (this is unreleased),Many comics sequels of Robotech
• Macross Sequels are: Macross II (plus Comic book sequel to Macross II), Macross Plus, Macross 7, Macross 7 Dynamite, Macross 7 Trash <<is this manga??>>
• Minmay sings a whole lot better in the original Macross than in Macross. Though some of the songs are kinda stupid, there are some really nice songs. Stage fright makes any normal person cringe.

Just because I had nothing better to do, I thought I'd list out my still unanswered questions about Macross. I think it would be pretty fun to send them in to the Macross staff.

• Who thought of using a budweiser can to shoot at the aliens in DYRL?
• Will we see the return of Megaroad-01 and Hikaru and Misa?
• Who was that alien race who had the Super Dimensional Fortress? Were they giants like the Zentraedi?
• Will the Jenius family be reunited? All seven daughters? Will Maximillian and Millia get back together?
• Does Minmay ever find someone else?
• Will humanity find Protoculture civilization?
• What ever did happen that night between Myung and Guld?
• What happens after Isamu rescues Myung? Do they get together? Does Isamu grow up?
• In Macross II, Feff seems pretty stuck on Ishar. What happens between Feff and Ishtar?

Startling Similarities between Macross and Super Dimension Century Orguss

(These shows have only a name in common, but the name does not appear to be the only coincidence)

• There was a scene in episode 4 where Kei and Mimsy look a lot like Rick and Lisa in "To the Stars"
• Mimsy looks a lot like Kim from the Bridge
• There is an enemy ace pilot named who looks a lot like Miriya. She has green hair, is pretty, self confident.
• There was a character named Elsie who looked like Minmay
• Kei had a girlfriend on Earth who also looked like Minmay.
• Shaya looks like a read head Azonia
• There is a love triangle between Kei, Slay, and Mimsy.
• The Orguss mecha has two phases in common with Macross: GERWALK and BATTLOID.
• Kei is also a dark haired, hot shot pilot who seems to have girl problems.
