Minmei or Minmay enters the Macross saga during the first episode as an attractive young girl caught up in the magic and exitement of the inaugaration of the Super Dimensional fortress. Macross island is attacked and she is saved by the young civilian Rick Hunter. A series of adventures follows and the two are stranded inside the abandoned area of the SDF-1 for for 12 days. Rick falls in love with her, but after they are rescued she moves on to pursue a singing career. She becomes a pop star aboard the SDF-1. Her voice has a magical effect upon those aboard the SDF-1, but they aren't the only ones who listen to her song. . .

WHY WE LOVE/HATE MINMAY

If your first saw ROBOTECH, then chances are you probably didn’t like Minmay so much. She was pretty flakey, whiny and the songs were not that good. At most they were okay, but most were hokey except "We will win."

If you first saw SUPER DIMENSIONAL FORTRESS MACROSS, then it can go either way.The singing in japanese was much nicer and the dialogue was also better. She was less flakey and more dedicated to being a singer.

If you first saw DO YOU REMEMBER LOVE, then chances are you LOVE Minmay.She was very very nice in this movie. She had her heart broken by Rick and was a tragic character in the tale.

You just gotta love Minmay, whatever her shortcomings she still helped save the Earth by shocking the Zentraedi with her pop music. She is one of the most famous idol singers ever. Her fans and criticizers alike are a testimony to her immortality in the realm of anime.
