J-Pop music almost has to be heard to be understood. I could make a million pages about J-Pop but if you never hear it, you will never get it. So here is your chance to sample a few current songs. All songs are for evaluation purposes only. You will need to have an MP3 player on your computer. Download one here.
- Amuro Namie- How To Be A Girl
This song first appeared on Amuro Namie's Album Concentration 20. It's a personal favorite of mine. The song was rotated regularly upon it's debut on MTV Japan. The video in which Amuro acts slightly like a fashion model on the subway, was dubbed by Japanese magazines as Amuro's best.
- Speed- My Graduation
This single released in February this year has recieved much acclaim from Speed fans and the media alike. Currently one of the top 20 most requested karaoke box songs in Japan. It has currently sold in excess of 1.7 million copies.
- MAX- Shinin' On Shinin' Love
From the hot selling album Maximum II released by Avex Trax. When the album debuted many thought MAX had tried to change thier look as well as thier style of singing because of the difference from thier first album. MAX members clarified later in a HEYx3 episode that they were only expierimenting and growing and not dropping the style that had made them famous.
- Tomomi Kahala- Hate Tell A Lie
This single captured the attention of Tomomi Kahala fans everywhere. I was in Japan when it was released and it was played everywhere from the grocery store to almost every radio station in Japan. I believe that is why it became as popular as it is now. Upon first listening you are not automatically drawn to the song, but with repeated exposure, it grows on you.
- Globe- Wanderin' Destiny
Released in November of 1997, this single became one of Globe's best known songs. Perhaps it's still too new to be a classic, but give it some time and there's no doubt it will end up in the J-Pop hall of fame and in your pile of favorite CD's.
- TK Family- You Are The One
Tetsuya Komuro is at it again promoting all of his artists in a single which gives them all the chance to come together as one big happy [TK] family. The song also has a few special apperances by artists other than TK Family members.
- ELT- Shapes Of Love
Released from ELT's Time To Destination album, this single is a break away from the ELT we are all used to. The entire album (her second) was not what ELT fans were expecting. With slower tempos and less techo-dance tracks, many fans were left feeling dissapointed.
- D&D- Shape Up Love
One of the best D&D songs ever. This group is definitly going places. The latest rumor to hit the fan about this dance oriented troop is Oliva will soon branch out on her own (still a member of D&D) and make a few solo tracks. TK has to focus his idol-making efforts on something now that his prize has set her eyes on a break with Sam.
