personal history: She was born premature, weighing only 4.5lbs at birth. She was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease, a form of a heart disease, and was repeatedly hospitalized. As she grew older however, the condition improved, and she was allowed to lead a normal life. In 1994, she won the P&G Clearasil, Pika-Pika Face Contest. This became her debut to show biz. In 1997, she stars in the movie, 20th Century Nostalgia, and debuts as a singer, with her single, Maji de Koi suru 5 byou mae. In the same year, she is awarded the Golden Arrow for best musical newcomer. She is also awarded the newcomer actor award from the Japan Academy Awards for 1998.
