BattleMech Regiment Armoured Strike Cavalry
In 2571, a Star League was formed to ally the major star systems. It failed. In 2751, the First Lord of the Star League was killed leaving an 8-year-old son as heir. The Lords of the High Council ruled until the young man became of age. Colonies on the rim of settled space began rebelling, drawing the Regular Army away from Terra. A bloody coup erupted in the lack of military presence and the throne was usurped. War raged and the tyrant was deposed. The Lords of the High Council reconvened and decided to disband the Regular Army and divide its troops among the 6 Great Houses. General Kerensky refused, and, in 2781, the Council disbanded. Kerensky, and nearly 3/4 of the regular army deserted their posts in Novemember of that year.
In 2786, Minoru Kurita was declared the new First Lord of the Star League. The mutinous leaders of the other Houses tried to install themselves as First Lord instead. And thus began the First Succession War.
One of the Great Houses was destroyed. Five still remained. The Second Succession War broke out quickly, and by 2863, technology was little above that of the Twentieth Century due to the wholesale destruction.
The Third Succession War began in 2866.
Welcome to the 31st century. Death is a way of life.

Formed at the closing of the year 3056 the 4th Nightstalkers was an experiment given life by Chu-i Keisuke Kage. The idea was to form a unit that would be classified as a Heavy-Fast regiment. To fill the ranks of the 4th, the Chu-i sought out young pilots who had been forsaken the opportunity to join the ranks of the more Ivy league units due to their "questionable" views, and invited them to join his "Death's Angels" (a name which by family tradition, was bestowed upon any unit under the command of a member of the house of Kage). The formation of a "Heavy-Fast" regiment AND the almost exclusive assignment of relatively young pilots to the unit broke two key traditions of the Nightstalkers, but despite some protest and several raised eyebrows (including that of Tai-sa Toyoma) the experiment was allowed to continue...
It was no more than a month later that the 4th was given the opportunity to prove it's worth. Wargames had been scheduled on the planet Tanh Linh just outside the Clan Smoke Jaguar Occuppied Zone, the 2nd was to play the role of an occupation force possessing "superrior, firepower, proficiency, and numbers (at the time the 4th was still smaller than a battallion), and the 4th was assigned the task of retaking the planet (unbeknownst to the 4th this was meant to be a test to determine whether the unit would be allowed to continue to grow, or whether it would be disbanded, it's assets absorbed into the other two regiments).
The 4th had been inbound for sometime, the Angels preparing to deploy as soon as the dropships made planetfall, when the dropships comm began to pick up sporadic transmissions from Toyoma's regiment ... The 2nd was already under attack! As the 4th listened, in shocked silence, the 2nd began to pull back, Tai-sa Toyoma's calm voice giving the order to withdraw from the field as the line crumbled around him...
Abruptly the transmission was cut off as a new voice came on the air, "Angels...Tanh Linh is OUR planet, and OUR brethren down there. I think it's time to introduce the Clan to the 4th, and inform them that they are not welcome here..." for a moment Kage's voice took on a wry edge "let's get those OLD MEN out of there" and returned just as quickly to the voice of a commander "Angels, prepare for hot drop in ten, I've ordered the dropships to drop us directly onto the battlefield...Hit em fast and hit em hard". The reply was a resounding "Hooahh!!!"
Afterwards there were some in the 2nd that said that the mechs dropping from sky that day resembled guardian angels descending upon wings of fire...
Hearing this Keisuke Kage, or Kei as he has come to be known by his friends and his men, simply grinned and responded "Nah...not guardian angels...Death's Angels"...

The 4th is an anomaly within the ranks of the Nightstalkers. Composed almost purely of heavy mechs and young pilots, the 4th has regardless been fully accepted within the Stalker's ranks. Another oddity is the requirements that Kage suggests (though never enforces) upon the battlemechs in his regiment (one that many of his pilots generally accept). The first involves mobility: Due to the 4ths style of combat the, Tai-sa has ordered that no mech be slower than 87 kph at max spd, and be capable of a minimum jump of 150meters. The 2nd involves a mechs weaponry: Due to the 4ths primary mission of striking deeply into and behind enemy lines, the Tai-sa has ordered that the minimum of ammunition based weaponry be mounted upon the 4ths mechs. And the 3rd and final requirement deals with survivability and is that all mechs in the 4th are of a weight that will allow them to mount as much armor as possible while maintaining the necessary mobility. As for his requirements for his troops, they are simple, loyalty not merely to those that one will be fighting under, but more importantly loyalty to the ones that one will be fighting beside... And of course... it is not spoken but it is understood that to be a member of The Death's Angels a mechwarrior must be just that, a warrior, and as such is expected to fight well, and with honor...
The DCMS 4th NSDA Armoured Strike Cavalry
"As with anything else, how a Unit is task organised and
employed depends on the situation. This is doubly true for the
ASC. Our combat role is that of Support/Reserve. It is our
strength that gives the 4th Night Stalkers the flexibility to
plan for several eventualities.
"Whether it is our task to protect the Landing Zone during
Operations, provide reinforcements, or quickly deploy for
Flanking/Diversionary missions, our reserve allows for the
regiment to be prepared to deal with the unexpected and exploit
every opportunity. When battlefield situations change, and split
second decisions are needed, we stand in the honorable position
to ensure success, not reinforce failure."
