Minoru: Are you mad about something?
Hideki: Mad, no. Disgusted, yes.
Minoru: (Hm--?)
Hideki: (At myself, for totally falling for a stupid urban legend!!)
Minoru: (Well, come on, it's a fantasy.) For a non-human creature in human form to possess
emotions and move under its own free will....
Kirakira sprakles surround him as he expounds.
Minoru: And what if somebody were to come and take that creature away?
Hideki: To some shady and nefarious research lab!

Minoru: You get into this stuff, don't you.
Hideki: Hey! If you're a guy, you dream about it!!
Minoru turns aside to Yuzuki, who is standing beside him.
Minoru: So she's definitely different?
Yuzuki: Yes. Chii-san's appearance does not match any of the types made by known companies.
Meanwhile, the subject of their discussion is doing her best to put on her own sneakers.
Chii: Chi?
Minoru: So she has to be custom-built.

He turns back to Hideki.
Minoru: I'll keep asking around. (I'll post on a BBS about custom-builts and see if anybody
knows anything.)
Hideki: Thanks. (BBS? What's that?)
Minoru: Give me your email address. I'll be in touch.
Hideki: Eh? Don't have one. (Email.) I'll give you my phone number. (Lessee, something to
write with...)
Minoru: Just tell it to Yuzuki.
Yuzuki: I'll save it in memory.
Her eyelids lower, and her gaze unfocuses.
Yuzuki: Go ahead.
Hideki: O..okay. Um, zero three..
Behind him, Chii takes on the same unfocused look that Yuzuki has, and makes the same low humming
noise.

Minoru watches her, missing nothing.
Yuzuki: *smiling* Save completed.
Hideki: (Wow, that's so cool.)
Minoru: Motosuwa-san, ask Chii for your phone number.
Hideki: Huh? Why?
Minoru: Just try it.
Wide-eyed, Hideki turns to Chii, pointing at himself.
Hideki: Chii, do you know my phone number?

Hideki: *gaping* HO....HOW'D YOU DO THAT!? And you spoke! You said something other than "chii"!
Minoru: She has learning software installed, all right.

Minoru: She was thrown out in a trash heap?
Hideki: Yeah.
Minoru: *frowning* Maybe the change set in when she was thrown out? Even so, her learning
program is working. Since she can speak if she's taught, she ought to be able to do plenty of
things.
Hideki: REALLY!?
Minoru: If you teach her right, Motosuwa-san.
Hideki: Me?
Minoru: You're her owner now, so she's going to act just the way you teach her to.

Hidek smiles down at Chii.
Hideki: The way I teach her.....huh.
He whirls, beaming.
Hideki: (SO!!) That means I won't have to buy any software!?
Minoru: Oh, you'll have to.
Hideki falls over.
Minoru: We may not know what she's got installed in her now, but once she's learned more, I'm
sure she'll be able to tell you herself.
He looks Chii straight in the eye.
Minoru: And whether she has a previous owner, "if she remembers," that is.

Chii bows her head. Watching her, Hideki is startled.
Hideki [thinking]: Just now, did she look sort of lonely....?
Minoru: *waving them goodbye* Anyway, see you.
Hideki: Thanks for everything.
Yuzuki: *smiling pleasantly* Please do come again.
Minoru gestures for Hideki to come closer, and leans up to whisper in his ear.
Minoru: Even if she does learn to talk and do all kinds of stuff, no matter how sweet she is,
or how cute--

His eyes darken miserably.
Minoru: Don't fall in love with her. Unless you want to end up crying.
Hideki: Eh?
Minoru makes no reply, and the front doors close automatically. For a moment Hideki stands there,
staring.
Hideki [thinking]: It's a persocon we're talking about. To fall in love with one would be....
He turns to Chii to give her a thumbs up, and she gives him one right back. (<--mimic)
Hideki [thinking]: Although she IS damn cute!
As they head back home, Hideki stuffs his hands in the pockets of jeans, and Chii does exactly
the same.
Hideki: But what kind of stuff should I teach you?

Just then, the t-shirt Chii is wearing falls off one of her shoulders, baring a healthy portion
of skin.
Chii: Chi---.
Hideki: AAAAAAAAAUGH!!
He covers her up quickly.
Hideki: A..ANYWAY, MUST BUY CLOTHES! NOW!
Chii: Chi!
Then he flops over, sighing.
Hideki: But I'm so broke.
Chii: Chi---. (<--mimic)
They reach the apartment complex, and are passing by the landlady's home when she calls out to them
from her porch.
Hibiya: Motosuwa-san, do you have a minute?
Hideki: Hibiya-san.
She hands him a paper shopping bag.
Hibiya: Here.

Hibiya: *smiling kindly* I'm sorry, it's just an old thing of mine, but if it's all right, I'd
like to give it to Chii-chan. (A dress.)
Hideki: THANK YOU!
Hibiya: I hope it's all right.
Hideki: *flushing* OF COURSE IT IS! YOU'VE SAVED ME!
Hibiya: *smiling* Then I'm glad.
Hideki [thinking]: Ah, it makes a guy feel all warm and fuzzy inside, don't it? Hibiya-san's
smile.
Hibiya: *waving* Good luck with your studying.
Hideki: THANKS!
Chii: Chi--.

They reach the apartment door, and Hideki reaches out to unlock it. As he does so, Chii imitates
his every move.
Hideki: Living in a place with a landlady like that--damn, I'm a lucky dog. (Oh yeah.)
A short time later, Chii is twirling around in a dark, flare-skirted dress.
Hideki: WOAH---! IT LOOKS GREAT, CHII!
She promptly jumps on him, knocking him over, and squeezes.
Hideki: OOF. (Oh. Oh.) So you're gonna turn out the way I teach you to, huh?
Chii: Chii.

He smiles down at her and pats her on the head.
Hideki: Well, a guy like me probably won't be any good at teaching much of anything, but
I'll give it what I've got, Chii.
Chii: Chii.
She jumps him all over again, knocking him flat on the tatami.
Hideki: WAAAAAH.
In the process, the dress slips up above her thighs. Turning crimson, Hideki grabs it and pulls
it down.
Chii: Chi-----?
Hideki: *from underneath her* ..Must buy underwear...now.
